I love the Weatherby Mark V rifles. I had one in 338-378 back in Colorado. great rifle for 1000 yard+ shots. My dad and I would go to the Whittington center in NM for the weekend. he always shot his M40 Winchester. he thought I was a fool for shooting such a big caliber. I could never shoot as well as he did. I still have his log books for every shot he took going back to 1967. the history in those log books. Your video brought back some good memories. Thanks R.I.P. Pops. 1946-2003.

@colt1911com every day of my life. If I have a issue I think what would dad do and it will hit me and that's usually the answer. Especially when working on cars. I restore old A body Chrysler's. My dad worked at Chrysler from 65 to 71. He always had a Hemi under the hood of his cars. He even put one in a 76 CJ-7. It was the only keep that did 4 wheel burnouts. It was dangerous because what ever way he was pointing was where the Jeep went. It was more of a gimmick dragster. We would go through 3 transfer cases a weekend when he rode it hard. Nothing beats a 572 Hemi at 1305 hp. He was so proud of that one.

Alliant Powder has on-line recipes for 221 Fireball. Loads are for 40, 45, 50 and 52 grain Speer bullets. Google Alliant Powder, enter the reloading guide and look under pistol and rifle loads. There is a different bullet in each section.Ditto for Hodgdon, which includes IMR powders. Nosler's on-line data lists 221 Fireball. Accurate's on-line catalog lists loads with their 1680 powder. VihtaVuori on-line lists recipes under the rifle section.

I think Hodgdon owns IMR or other way around, they also include Winchester powder which is also owned. I have plenty of reloading data on 221 fireball from different manuals and online, what I was looking for was cast bullet load data. FCLC45 had rare first edition of Lyman cast bullets reloading manual which had reload data for 221 fireball cast bullets. That's what I was interested in to see on page 137 as I saw him flipping the pages in his other video. But that's ok, no biggie, I got screenshot, a picture would have been better.

Thanks FortuneCookie45LC! I am privileged that you replied in video format. Page 137 lol, I meant in first edition of Lyman cast book you were flipping though in your video "Lyman asleep at the wheel" and I saw on page 137 you had cast bullets load data. I got quite a bit of load data for jacketed bullets, but it was still nice to see other sources, I appreciate that. One interesting thing I saw in your Hornady book which looks like 9th edition? On the first page it mentions Remington Classic 700, that's the rifle I acquired recently, it mentions IMR 4198 which I got a lot and 50gr v-max being very accurate combo (This info is omitted in 10th edition) I was surprised to see it. I got various bullets and powders that I am going to try. I been looking actually for Accurate 2400 for very long time locally since I don't want to pay Haz Mat fee, but none of the stores I've been to in last few years had it. You were probably scratching your head why did I want to look at 7mm rifle :))) I did pause your video to get somewhat readable screenshot off that video for cast lead bullets. Thanks!

Dima Prok - I'll recheck that for you - I recall that I looked in that old Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook and there wasn't any 221 Fireball in there...but maybe I missed it... Best to ya, FC

The load data for .221 Fireball is almost always in the “Handgun” section since the .221 was released by Remington as a handgun cartridge…😊

I have a friend that has one in a 700 Rem. Great shooter and a very powder efficient cartridge.

Jim S - It is that. Your friend's M700 is a rarity and has some real interest there... Have a great day, FC

The Reloading Handbook 'Pet Loads' from Ken Waters has data for the 221 Fireball as well. Btw.. I have some of that Data 2200 and it works pretty good. It's a Military bulk powder used by the Israelis for their 5.56x45 Ammunition. I make my Bulk 55 gr ammo with it. It meters quite well in powder measures (Like H335, AA2230, and 2400) good stuff for the Dillon, and because it's a Military Surplus powder it has a reduced cost as well. Good info Steve.. Dave.

Thorsaxe777 - And it is very fine, Dave, that MidwayUSA has some of that rascal stuff as we speak...I've got almost 8 pounds of it so I'm not looking for any, but it sure has broad usefulness... Have a very fine Pacific NorthWest day, FC Steve

I bought mine from "Pat's reloading".. They had a advertisement years ago in the shotgun news. That must have been 15-20 years ago, they probably have a web sight now, another Guy I used to deal with was "Jeff Bartlett reloading supply's" He had the best deals on M-2 Ball pull down projectiles.. and pull down IMR 4895 powder. Bought a ton of stuff from him. Dave.
@FortuneCookie45LC7 жыл бұрын
Dave - That surplus 4895 powder was what gave Bruce Hodgdon the start to his powder manufacturing empire. He knew that the government would be burning the surplus powder after WWII (they did just that after WWi) just to get rid of it. So he started by buying up a boxcar of that powder for a song to resell to reloaders. That powder was purchased by reloaders from him in kegs for years making him major in the industry. I recall that my friend Doug used to keep kegs of that powder along with others in the hallway leading to his bedroom back in our ground squirrel shooting days...And his favorite was his M721 Remington (became the M700) custom heavy barrel in 270 because he wanted to shoot 90 grain bullets at 3700 fps against those squirrels...I thought Doug was crazy because he loaded a grain over maximum in the manuals, but it was because he had freebore in his rifling leade to allow that. Nice job with your latest 38 wadcutter videos...I'm going to finish up our 44 Special book - do you want to do a closing summation type video for our book? Best to ya, Steve
@Thorsaxe7777 жыл бұрын
On the .44 special.. I really don't have any left to add really. I believe we have done just about everything that could be done in practicality with it. It's been a fun project and working together has benefited me vary much.. Back to the Rem 721. Those rifles are sought after for building match guns. that action is hand made to vary close tolerances. The action alone will go for as much as 450-500, I had one in 30-06 and it was butter smooth. IMR 4895 is one of my favorite powders to reload with because of it's burn rate, works well in bolt guns and works fantastic in auto loading rifles, I must have burned up 100 pounds of it.. Good shooting to ya, and thanks about my video work on the .38 wadcutter, More to come.. Dave.

I have had good luck with Accurate 1680 and 40 grain nosler ballistic tip boat tails.. I won't list the charge as it's over book max by a good bit... awesome little cartridge and very efficient.
@Strutingeagle7 жыл бұрын
Use the RL 7 with the 40 gr bullet at around the 19 gr mark and you will be tickled pink. Tried the Lil Gun powder and it is a bit hot. For reduced loads go with the trailboss powder at around the 3 gr mark with 50 gr bullets. Velocity gets erratic above 3 grs.

yep, I plan to pick up RL7 sometime as I've read on forums this is one of the top choice powders for this cartridge.

Dima Prok - And Rel 7 is also very good for 223s, 5.56, 243, 308, and 30/30 as well. Good reloadin' to ya, FC

Was dropping off a friend in Airport and decided to drop by Sportsman warehouse to check out powders. Well they finally got 1lb Unique canisters and there was 2400! on the shelf, two bottles! Been looking for this powder for 2 years locally. There was a spot for Reloader 7 but none in stock :( it's 46 miles from my house, 15 from airport, so I don't go there often. But it's so damn expensive - 32 bucks 1lb for RL7!!! It looks like some of Alliant powder is made in USA and it's cheaper and other is imported from Sweden and more expensive. Just checked powdervalley and looks like local store charging almost 10 dollars more per lb on RL7.

Lot's of negative things I've read on Hornet 22. That was the first gun I considered for my center fire rifle. I ended up getting Mossberg 223 and was happy. What not to like - takes large capacity magazines from AR15 comp that are dirt cheap compare to any other magazine - check, thousands of free brass collected - check, huge selection of powders and bullets - check. P.S. I found that I liked 10rd mags the best, it's a bolt action after all. Did I mention it's accurate, about 1 moa with right bullet and I didn't even try expensive stuff like Sierra Match Kings, one time I was using them to firelap the barrel and I wasn't supposed to shoot for accuracy but I did and was really surprised how well they shot.
@FortuneCookie45LC7 жыл бұрын
Edad Martin - Your 22 Hornet would be the rifle for taking game cleanly out to 150 yards. The same rifle chambered in 221 Fireball would outshoot the Hornet as the 221 Fireball case has more powder capacity. But nothing wrong with the Hornet - anything out to 100 yards is the "Gentleman's Varminter". Have a great Memorial Day, FC
