I think you chose a good, accurate caliber though. Easy to get just under an inch groups at 100 yards. Bullets should be relatively cheap, and smaller powder charges too. I used to have Thompson Contenders, and bought a carbine kit. I chose the .222 Remington, and it was a tack driver. Wish I still had it. I think you have a good gun there. Get yourself a good spotting scope, so you don't have to walk back and forth so much. Set up like 4 of those targets. Have a notebook to write down what load you tried on each little bullseye. Make up some handloads with, say, 10 each. Try them all. Use different bullets, powders, and charges. You'll come up with a few loads that look really promising. Next time, just load up those loads and back to the range. I bet you'll come up with loads that will stay under 1/2" (and maybe better) if you can do your part in the shooting. I worked a lot with a .243 rifle way back when I was 14 years old (now 62). Lots of handload developement under the strict supervision of my dad. Over the years I've handloaded many rifle and pistol calibers. For that .243, we actually hand weighed every powder charge. It paid off, as I was able to get dime sized groups at 100 yards. I enjoy handloading and experimenting to try to get every bit of accuracy I can.

nice group I was thinking savage or Ruger, I love ruger firearms , but it looks like the savage is cheaper and shoots better groups, people seem to be having problems with the ruger american in 223 with feeding and accuracy

I think it was a lucky gun have a look at my savage barrel defect video I bought a 12 fcv in 223 and it was garbage 3" was common with that 900 dollar rifle. Now I'm staying with remington rifles they have always fixed or replaced any thing I had an issue with no questions asked. If you buy a savage I hope you get a good one like I did with my axis

I have 4 Savages 2 Axis ll in .223 and .308 and 2 mark ii a fvt with peep and a tr with a scope bough heavy barrels I only have a 70 yd range and can get dime size groups width all of them.

shooting from a folding table. i have a video called shooting table or something. that rifle shoot under and inch at 200 yards but when new they are moa rifles you need to fire aprox. 300 rounds to get the accuracy out of them. i have a new model 12FCV and its shooting 1.5 moa now with 65 through it

Why are you using a sub-55gr bullet for a 1:9 twist? 53gr vmax are marked for 1:14 twist. Been shooting a 110 tactical for 12 years with 75 amax and just got the axis for my daughter and we were gonna start with 60gr vmax. Hence my search of axis performances.

i have a box of 75 Amax's and cant get them to stabilize in any of my 1 in 9 twist rifles. 68's work good though. people have reported the 6mm 105 amax's working in 1:9 1/4" twist 243's also and i cant get them to work either. i shoot mostly at about 600 ft asl so maybe the air density is my problem? I have shot everything in my 1in 9 223 from 40gr vmax to 68's without a problem though. i was worried about the 40 gr bullets not being able to handle that tight of a twist but they seem ok. and 58's in my 243 work as well

RINGET421 Had 58gr in a Ruger #1 6mm at 4100 fps and decided I would have a very short barrel life and knocked them down to 3200 fps. I have some Hornady 68 bthp's since you mentioned those that I will batch out for my daughter. Not as showy on varmints as polymer tips but effective none the less. Keep 'em in the 10 range!

1:9 twist 5.56 or .223 perfect for 55 gr. Probably could shoot up to 62 get and would stabilize. 1:7 twist could handle probably up to 90 gr. 1:14 twist might could handle 40 gr but that would be about it. Tighter the twist the heavier and longer bullet it will stabilize. Just like most .308 has a 1:12 and most .30-06 has 1:10, this why the 06 can stabilize up to 220 gr, and the .308 only up to 180 gr. That's why most .22's have a 1:16 to 1:14 twist, for the smaller bullets, not larger.

bought my wife a pink camo one yesterday deacked out for 430$ and it suprised me how accurate it was! she was shooting right with me at 100yards with one of my 1200$ 223 rifles and she was shooting .5moa at 100 with it using hunting rounds! while i was shooting 68gr hornady bthp match ammo...the axis was shooting the same group size as me with match ammo using the fed fussion 62 gr's!

Your video reminds me of and makes me have sympathy for biathlon biathletes that have to shoot a rifle score between cross country skiing with no rest. One of my favorite Olympic sports to watch other than ski jumping. Good accuracy from the Axis for sure even with running back and forth. The trigger on my .22-250 Axis was horrible when I got it at around seven pounds. The trigger job (two coils removed) brought it down to the four to five pound range. Would like it a little lighter but I don't want to cut the spring down any more to stay safe and so the safety still functions so its okay right there. The .223 Axis was a little better out of the box at around six pounds. Now its down to the three to four pound range with only one and a half coils removed. Right where I want it. Both are way better than they were and smoother. Did a very slight sear edge and sear slot edge polish job so just the metal shines using light abrasive silver or metal polish and a micro fiber cloth. Added a very light coat of gun grease also. Smooths it out. Did the drop test from one foot high down on the buttstock on both of them many times and they are still safe and still function including the safety.

Yes they do have to have very good control. Very difficult discipline. They do use different shooting positions at each shooting station. Probably all four, standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone.

Just zero in on the bullseye fire a round at the Target look to where the round landed and zero in on bullseye again and adjust your scope to where your last shot hit and your zeroed in. Your welcome in advance.

very good shooting with an Axis ll I like that you show the bullets hitting the target I have switched to all Savage rifles except my 44 mag as savage dose not make a bolt in that cal. I have not found a Savage rifle that does not shoot great. O I almost for got I did get a Henry leaver in .22 fun little gun but can not get good groups even at 50 Yd. I have a savage 223 110e that shoots under a 1 inch group at 200 yards. I use a 50 grain spx, I take head shots on woodchucks at 200 yards. Most loose there head.

I would be very interested in your shooting at greater distances. I had my .223 AXIS out at the range yesterday, and shot 1-1/2 inch groups at 200 yds using Varget powder behind a Hornady 55 gr FMJBT. I probably should be using a heavier bullet like you are, but the rifle still impresses me even with my results, which isn't bad at all.

I have a rem 700 and axis xp both in .223 and I like my axis way better and spent half the money on it. Currently getting my barrel threaded on the axis can't wait to throw a suppressor on it and see how I like it. Nice shot groups with that wind, 1moa or less is good in my book at 100yds. Great shooting. Just picked up a new left hand version of same rifle.Modded the trigger to 4#. I have reloading equipment but need the dies to get into reloading this round. Shooting the cheap Russian steel cased bi-metal bullet stuff for now just to break in the barrel, seems to be fairly accurate but nothing like yours due to the ammo.At $5.47 per box, hard to pass up.. I bought one with a wood stock , did a little trigger job and it is a sweet thing to shoot.. I use 62 grain bullets..great gun for the money. If accuracy and reliability is your standard this is the one..you can leave those expensive Remington 700 on the gun shop rack.

the scopes a BSA 8-32x44. got it on ebay for 100 bucks its garbage but it holds a zero so thats all that matters. but i have never owned a rifle that shot as good as my old axis 223. but im about 150 rounds into the 12FCV and groups are starting to close up but still only at 1" at 100 meters or 109 yards

Just bought 3 Savage Axis II models for $249 each after rebate at Sportsman warehouse. Two .223, one .308, all camo stocks. Adjusted the accu-triggers as low as I could, put on NIkon Buckmaster II 4x12 scopes, and harris bipods, all shoot great!

I'm looking at getting this rifle myself. Did you do any trigger work for these groups or was it still as it was when bought? I see they now offer the axis 2 with the adjustable trigger and a budget weaver s ope. I may have to look into that one also. I think it will make a great budget plinker, and groundhog and yote hunter. Even a deer rifle with the right load.

that one was completely stock but i did mod another savage axis 270 and it was a huge improvement in trigger pull weight. search my vids axis trigger job. i recently upgraded to a model 12fcv but it can't group anything like the axis i had.

That was some impressive shooting. I had my Savage Axis .223 out today, shooting at 200 yards. I wasn't impressed with myself. But, good enough for coyotes. I was standing up, using a front rest on the bed cover of my truck. It was also very windy today. That's about all of the excuses that I can think of for now...lol But hey, I still had fun!!!!! I did hit 10 water bottles(16 oz) in a row, tho... So, about a 3" group, I'm guessing. Ah...

+M Tr how's it going. the reason I didn't make a video lately with that rifle because it was garbage. search my channel about the model 12 barrel defect. long story short I lost trust in savage after they refused to help me out with the rifle. so I sold all my savage rifles and will never buy another. remington has never let me down, I have had issues with remington also but they either replaced or fixed the problem very fast. right now I have a semi auto mosberg 12 gauge I had to send away and haven't heard anything from them in over 6 months so I think that's the last mosberg now to. marlin remington imo are the best and they will always have my business

Regardless of the problems with Savage model 12, you should have made a video and explain the whole thing. Many guns companies are pulling scams on their own customers with BS. rebates like Remington, Savage and so on. You didn't mention about the scope on the Savage 223. Oh! I like Marlin too; however they are bought out by Remington and have discontinued many popular models, so they can sell the Remington's products. Take care guy, if things were still good, you would do well in acting! (movie).
