What I learned after many situations like that, I'm really direct and just ask: "you want me to do my job or wasting my time with this? This will take results be slow if it's what you want" I know that it's bad but this will let me know what kind management I'm under and decide what to do.

not a wise thing to do because default is your manager being an idiot and will turn hostile. however, probably preferable in case you don't want to lose your soul and dignity.

Sometimes the direct approach is the best approach...and sometimes it gets you fired.

Yeah, I did mention it's not a good approach, but I've been in these situation more than I like, so I don't wast time with this anymore. Btw this will show if the manager has any "people skill" or isn't a good manager.

@@IAmTimCorey mostly certain to get me fired but I guarantee that if continue in this path it's not end well, mostly like will end in burnout and been there don't wan't again so that's why. I totally don't suggest doing this

I keep a digital kitchen timer at my desk. At the start of the day I set it to 8 hours. It only counts down while I'm "on the clock" (I'm paid in salary). I pause it during lunch breaks, but not during bathroom or pomodoro method breaks.
