Leland really has a distinct style of getting around the neck of the bass. He really picks the perfect register for each part of the song, with lots of unexpectedly adventuresome tasty little glissandos which are clearly a little awkward to execute. But he makes them look effortless. It's such an incredible treat to actually see him play tunes that I've always admired the bass lines on.

OK. Back. I'm eager for the book. the new vid, and the EP. There's so much to look forward to! And, with regard to "who's in charge," imagine what cats must think as they watch us scoop their litter pans. Do they wonder what we do with all of it? And remember... according to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, humans are the third most intelligent species on the planet. 😂✌🏼❤️

What a lift. Sh*tty week - one to put behind us, and a favorite bass player plays a favorite JB song. Wow. Needed. Again - met you on Running on Empty tour in ‘78 and followed you since. Just want to thank you for your humanity and humility. Can’t say enough about what your videos and stories have meant the last few months. A good deed in a weary world. Also, thanks for Judith Owens. Simply, a sincere thank you. Looking forward to ImFam video. Met Waddy on Linda R’s tour - laughed with him as they sound checked “Dirty Work” as he was cracking jokes. What fun you guys must be. Carry on - appreciatively - AH

Lee, I'm not sure when the first time I saw you live. But I'm gonna say it's been a many. I was born in 1967, and ever since I can remember my parents were ticket holders to Ravinia north of Chicago. I attended summer after summer(with and eventually without my parents) until I moved in 1989. I can't recall who I saw there, but JT, Jackson Brown, Helen Reedy were shows we would not have missed. As a teen at Rosemont, and Poplar Creek shows as well. Unfortunately I wasn't there to watch the bass, but I remember your beard. Thus why I started checking out your videos. Your beard. But as a wee lad on you have been the soundtrack to my life and so many wonderful memories. Thank you for being you, and continuing to bring me joy to this day with these wonderful videos. Peace and God Speed.

Dude! I was at Ravinia for JB's Running on Empty tour. Also caught Peter, Paul, and Mary, but many years later. Good times. Many great memories from Poplar Creek, too. Damn fine song indeed. Also LS, kudos to you for the ‘measured’ way you are able to let known a little of how you feel around how life ‘is’ and the challenges, (natural and otherwise) over there right now. What you tell us also, albeit briefly and not intended for this space, helps a lot to understand and maintain perspective.

I’ve said it before, the bass line you play would the one I’d hear in my head, if the bass line wasn’t there. Do you know what I think it is... (if this makes sense), I think it’s hearing the thousands of albums you’ve played on over the years and without me knowing it was you, for some reason, I’ve unwittingly latched onto your style of playing and, in a way, a good way, I’ve become indoctrinated by your style. These days when I hear a track on the radio and think, now that’s how the bass line should go and sound, I have the luxury of technology in the name of ‘Shazam’. So when I hear a bass line I like and Shazam it, the majority of the times it turns out to be Mr Leland Sklar on the bass. I love it 🙂 and love your style 👍

Helene, I first started playing the bass in a cover band about 40 yrs ago so whenever I hear music, it’s always the bass I pick out first - I do it automatically without thinking about it! I’m not a big fan of drum machine bass, as in the Roland 808. It has its place sometimes, but for me, I love the sound of a proper bass guitar.

Rock Me on the Water is one of those songs that never gets old for me - and I've heard it many, many times, because I got to play it at a lot of different radio stations. As you were playing it I was anticipating piano riffs, lyrics, the whole deal. Some songs I've heard with much less frequency don't age well, but this one I always enjoy. Thank you for playing on it.

My experience in college during art school late 70's, early 80's with political people was the following - the Quaker Mennonites. Talk about a radical organization!
