I thought this was going to be a chaotic video with all of the ammo testing but you put it together well. The graphics with velocities and penetration depths was really good. Also, your close ups on the gel block while pointing out the wound tracks helped a lot.

Thanks for this video. Paul Harrell did a video that shows Rough Rider in 4.75” will perform better than 6.5” or 16” because of the cylinder gap letting the gases out. If it was a closed bolt action, longer barrel length would be better.

Word of warning on the Rough Riders they are addictive. Most of us who bought 1 now have 4 or more. Plus accessories such as grips , cylinders etc are inexpensive so start changing them. Love them.

@@ToolsandTargets here are my bets on the why Fragmentation: too fast for the bullet design. Or did you have the Punch at those speeds before? Velocities: 2 suspects - (1) inconsistent powder charges, (2) inconsistent bullet diameter Probably too much effort - but if you want to dig in, pulling and measuring a few punch bullets and weighing the powder charges would be interesting

@@nikos6220 The Punch wmr has fragmented in every test I've done so far so that's not unusual. The speed inconsistency of the Punch lr was what caught my attention. I suspect it's all due to the cylinder gap on this budget revolver. I normally test them from my semi-auto pistols.

Now this was a really interesting test Tools. I didn't expect these results. Just shows that barrel length can change things up pretty much. The punch performed as usual while those Gold Dots out did what I expected to see. I think any of them would be acceptable, just depends on how you use them. Another great test Tools, you sure are crushing them. And the range is definitely looking really good. Now to just get you a good shooting table. Be vigilant, be safe

Any of those would definitely make an outstanding small game round. If I had to choose one it would probably be the 2LR singer. It has the longest track record and seams to always be very accurate and works.

Another awesome test ! if i had to use my Roigh Rider for self defense i would stick with the lr rounds , just as good a results in the 6 inch barrel and way less noise and muzzle flash ! 22 mag will blind you shooting at night !

I think the CCI stinger would get better penetration out of a Ruger 10/22 because 22Plinkster shot a CCI stinger through a titanium golf club close up while the other .22LR round just bounced off.

I've done tests with am at a distance with a 10/22 and they didn't get much then either. They expand so well, it keeps em from penetrating far in soft tissue. The Punch is basically a slightly lighter solid Stinger.

Incredible that I somehow missed this video by a whole year...you are testing ammo we have out of a gun we have, can't ask for more...I know we currently have the Hornady loaded in our Heritage, with the Gold Dots in a different gun...the .22wmr ain't much, but if aimed it can get it done...i'll sleep better knowing those two guns are okay as staged, and can fine tune some of our other options...I am starting to think I'll dedicate our stingers and velocitors to hunting purposes, out of a longer rifle barrel the performance is excellent...nice to have options...great video...

Very good video...! we have the Hornady loaded in our Heritage, and although the other ammo was equal/superior I'll stick with it simply because we have MORE of it, lol...it will be fine...besides, that frees up our little bit of Gold Dots for our carry gun...as for the lr we will stick with the Velocitors for the rare carry because we have quite a few of them...i can understand the number of folks that will jump after seeing this video, that isn't our style...

if penetration is the key as i believe it to be, then the 22lr punch is still the king in this video, with one caveat, the wildly varying chrono readings. over 200 fps differences in some 22lr punch rounds is an indicator of inconsistency and quality control.

When i carry my pmr i either load critical defense or gold dot in my testing critical defense expands to almost 45

Very cool .22 test! I think they all did pretty darn well. I use the stingers for squirrel hunting and it sure does the job on them. But the punch continues to impress for sure. Great test as always. None better on KZbin. 👍🇺🇸
