After 4500 pellets through my .25 Impact it equates to around $245.00. Shooting 22 match ammo through my target rifle will cost me around ten times that for the same shot count. The local dive shop charges me $10.00 per fill on my fill tank and I get about 720 shots per fill. Yup $2100 is not pocket change, but over the long run it’s some of the cheapest shooting I have ever done!
@realblakrawb2 жыл бұрын
2100 if they sell the tensioned 800 as a factory gun. Still, buy once cry once. My m3 outshoots my old 22 match setup for precision by A LOT.
@aerobuild2 жыл бұрын
@@realblakrawb There is no doubt, having gun smithed and shot competitively, I have never had anything that shoots as accurately and consistently right out of the box, having one of the early MK1 Impacts shooting pellets and an M3 launching slugs, once tuned they are scary accurate. To get any powder burner to shoot anywhere close to these Impacts requires at least some sort of blue printing and bedding the action to the stock, unless you are dropping some pretty big bucks on a chassis system and then a whole bunch of time doing load development or like with 22’s, lot testing ammo to hopefully find something that it really likes! Now you have to hope you can find enough of that lot to keep you shooting straight for a decent length of time.

For me the biggest change to PCP’s was the introduction of the slug vs Diabolo pellets . I think everyone agrees it has stretched the distance significantly for both target and game hunting . The problem I have is an inventory of Diabolo pellets I will never use up in my lifetime . One thing I would add . Matt Dubber is without a doubt one of the most experienced Airgun shooters in the world and has contributed so much to air-gunning . If an award could be handed out for this category he would be at the top of my list .

Back in the day, so to speak, if I could get 2MoA from my old 10/22, would have been stunned. Couldn't even see the bulls-eye at 100yds. Regularly hit squirrels at 50yds and was happy with that. Well was a teen and had open sights and that was close to 50yrs ago. Still, suspect ammo is part of that accuracy factor.

Ammo especially in rimfire makes or can make a huge difference; I built a rifle and with high quality ammunition it can shoot a sub 1/2 MOA group at 100 yards but that same rifle can open up to 1-6” groups with box/brick ammunition. I also have a 1950s tube fed 22 LR that can shoot a 1 inch group with that with decent ammo and it’s been handed down since it was bought new because it’s such an accurate rifle; and that’s been taken out hunting and beaten up a lot and still shoots great.

The background is sort of misleading. There have been people in the US shooting slugs in airguns long before Matt Dubber ever picked up an FX PCP. He used to shoot a 177 cal Air Arms PCP. Cedric, and a lot of Southern Cali airgunners were casting slugs and hitting prairie dogs and ground squirrels out past 200 yards a long time ago. I don't want to post a link on someone's site but Cedric shot a group less than an inch at 170 yards with a custom-built 375 cal Epoch. He also has a video of a 1.6-inch 3-shot group at 340 yards with the same gun..

I would buy the M3 instanly (or any Impact in this matter), but what keeps me out is how high the scope (Picatinny) mounting mechanism is...it's putting the scope so high, there's a lot of offset play. The closer the line of scope aligns with the barrel's line of fire, the less offset play you need to account for to get better accuracy. I don't know why FX keeps making it so high. Make it lower, like the Crown...that would be perfect. It's the only thing that makes me lean toward the Crown more. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
