The shoes on the Waters Edge in Budapest was a bit much for me. My father was born in Budapest in 1926, dad didn't like talking about the war but as I've gotten older things I've learnt about my family in Hungary. I had to stop watching the video for a minute cos I couldn't see through my tears. What a heavy and very powerful reminder. I love you Dad and thank you for being the biggest kindest man in the world to me.

I've been to the shoes in Budapest and you can feel the energy's of the lost souls that were killed. I lit a candle when I was there and left a bracelet for a child on the shoe. People leave flowers, sweets all sorted to embrace who was lost. It's worth going to x

Broke my heart. Very emotional and down to earth art. In Norway we have small bronze plates on the pavement outside houses where Jews lived before the deportation to the camps. I always stop for a while when I stumble upon one of these, reading their names, age, where they finally died. The meaningless Horror of it all. We must never forget. You leaving a bracelet for the child, You are a beautiful person. Peace and Love.

@@lemat8558 wow I'll have to visit sometime, I love to travel and visit places that have meaning, Budapest has a special place in my life, you hear of all these bad things that happened back then but when you see it first hand & experience the energy is so meaningful. Wow! These are all amazing pieces and it's really difficult to choose a favourite. I love the ones which suggest movement, especially 'the world in her hands' 'watch where you're going' 'letting go' - what a delicate looking sculpture! and 'the kelpies'. I love the 'fountain of youth' - such a clever idea with the invisible pipe, hidden in the water, that holds it all up. The 'power of books' is particularly beautiful. 'Cinderella effect' is really sad when you remember what happened to the owners of the original shoes!

In my home town there are 2 famous statues. The well known 'Vienna Sausage' by Isamu Noguchi. It is a life size vertical sausage, 3 quarters of it is hidden under the water and the rest sticks out. The second one is an enormous shoe made of reinforced fibreglass and plumber's foam. The shoe is also water themed. 18 inches long, it has a hollow hull and bobs up and down in the Indian ocean tied to an anchored cable. The shoe sank twice and the police scuba team had to retrieve it 10ft under the water. It is now in a museum and in its place is polystyrene in the shape of a shoe, about half the size of the original. If you charter a boat or contact NSRI you may be lucky to find the half shoe before it is completely disintegrated.
