23 Vela Luka, Korčula, Dalmatian Islands, Croatia

Vela Luka is a small town in Dubrovnik-Neretva County in southern Dalmatia, Croatia. The town is located on the western side of the island of Korčula at the bottom of a wide bay which has many indented coves. Vela Luka developed at the beginning of the 19th century in a deep sheltered bay. Its name means "big harbour" in Croatian chakavian. Inhabitants of the Island of Korčula and Pelješac often refer to it simply as "Luka" (the port/harbour). It has several hotels and a medical centre called Kalos (for rheumatic disorders and rehabilitation). The inhabitants are farmers, fishermen and workers in tourism. The town also has small industrial plants.
Vela Luka's most interesting sight is Vela Spila or Great Cave. This vast rocky hideout was clearly inhabited in the Neolithic Period. Despite its antiquity, Vela Luka remained lightly inhabited until the 18th century when its position as a gateway port to Korcula Island brought some prosperity.
In the 1960s, the Kalos health centre opened on the Kale cove which had long been known for its medicinal mud deposits and a spring of radon mineral water, supposed to bring health benefits. The fact that Vela Luka is one of Croatia's sunniest spots (2671 sunshine hours per year) has also attracted health-seeking visitors.

Volim te Vela Luko ,kod hotela Jadran sam prvu simpatiju poljubio,vodio je u brda u discoteku nisam ni znao da je Bebek vlasnik nije me bilo ni briga jer tvoja lepota i tvoje sve ostalo je zauvik u mom srcu i sad pivam -Kad ću opet doć.... a prošlo je već 31 godina kako te nisam videa jebem ti političare što nas uskrate Lipote i gušta :S Zdravi bili Vela Lučani i bio Hajduk prvi :)

Hvala za video. Bilo mi je vrlo ugodno dok gledam Vela Luku i prepoznajem Hotel Jadran u kome sam davno bila kao dete, 1975. i 1976.godine ! Potpuno sam sve prepoznala i Hotel Posejdon i park i sve ostalo. Ostala mi je Vela Luka u jako lepom sećanju i zauvek će tako biti , jer tada sam bila prvi put na moru! Veliki pozdrav snimatelju i svim ljudima koji ovo pročitaju, Novi Sad!
