In the far Canadian North, winter comes early. But this is good. I love being at my camp when it's very cold. I love challenging myself with the extreme temperatures. Having a bush camp is a lot of work. You need to stay fed and you need to stay warm. Join me as I venture into the deep woods and cook up a bacon sandwich and a mouth watering steak.
Here are all of my tiny cabin hot tent videos: www.youtube.co....
Follow me on instagram: / ajayinthewoods
How much experience do I have?
That depends. I am pretty good at starting a fire these days and gathering wood. But I don't really have true bushcraft skills and definitely no carpentry or construction skills or training. I could probably make a shelter if I had to, but that would just come from all the KZbin training (watching) over the years.
What gear do I use?
Canon 90D camera
Rode videomicro
Sigma Art 18-35mm 1.8
Sigma Art 50mm 1.4
Canon 10-18mm stm
I do not live in the tent. I just visit whenever I can.

Jay, thank everyone again for being able to start the fire on arrival. Go get a flat bar of metal ( 12 inches x 1 1/2 )bend it to a 90 about 2 inches down. drill a hole in short piece for a handle for the big pot. Save the oil in a container where you keep your fire wood, you never know. Pouring into the fire may not be the best idea. Get the smallest spoon in containing and use it for salt and pepper, spilling it on your food ( by distraction, clutz, or sneeze ) and you ruined your meal. Are you still seeing your friend?

Hi Jay ! beautiful video man !! Since I have a similar set up like yours, I'd like to share a few tricks of mine. I installed aluminium foil bubble insulation on the inside walls. No more cold drafts and excellent light and heat reflection...and the fire reflects on the aluminium...looks like a million stars inside the camp !!! I solved the problem about having heat during the night....I just don't have any. I let the stove go out before going to bed. That way I go to bed dressed and with the appropriate sleeping bag to keep me warm without relying on the stove. Nothing worse than going to bed hot, sweety and half naked and the waking up half frozen. But I do have a secret weapon.... put a nice round rock on the stove 30 min before going to bed, wrap it in a cloth to prevent burns and put it at your feet in the sleeping bag. I will last for many hours. Leaving a pot full of water on the stove is the best way to have water fast for the next trip. I've been doing this for many years. Thanks again Jay and take care !!
@jaylegere
@jaylegere 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Staphane! I'm not sure I would use aluminum bubble all the way around as it would prove difficult in lighting situations due to to reflection. That said, I like your ideas and can totally see how this would be a cheap solution!

Not sure if any of the other comments mention this but the best tip I can suggest for a chainsaw is to take a little bit off the rakers or depth gages every time you sharpen the chain or they will be sticking up higher than the the teeth.it didn’t seem like the saw was getting as much bight as could be.

Really liked this video jay. Some of those night time outdoor shots were fantastic. Are you using a lense filter outside now? I'm no videographer, but it seems like the colour is sharper, or somehow different? Perhaps I'm just smitten with the imagery. When you started talking about needing water, I recalled seeing pictures of the Canadian military in Arctic war games storing potable water in bags outside, frozen in consumable sized cubes. It looked to me like they had just poured it into thick poly bags, and placed them in a wooden frame outdoors, to form them, but am not finding anything on the net to confirm it. You seem surrounded with clean snow, so probably not an issue. -shrug- Anyway, pleasant to watch, always look forward to seeing something new from you. Take care.
