In July 2015 our Frida MRAD Paul from the MRAD Outdoors channel in Ireland called me out to attempt the 200 yard Rimfire Egg Challenge which is patterned after our very own Milk Jug Challenge with 10 shots allowed in 10 minutes at a standard chicken egg at 200 yards or more. The addition is that you must donate at least $1 to a charity of your choice for each shot that you missed.
I have donated my portion to the Ride to Zero which works to combat the growing problem of veteran suicides. I couldn't think of a better cause than to protect those who put their life on the line for me, my family, my country and our freedom.
Just as I was called out I too am calling out three people to take the Egg Challenge.
1 - Curtis Broadbent - 2014 Utah State Sniper Shoot Champion
2 - Eric Smith - 2013 & 2014 National Palma Champion, USAR Marksmanship Team & U.S. Long Range Shooting Team
3 - My favorite KZbin reviewer...Mr Hickok45 himself.
It's taken me what feels like forever (about a month) to get out and video my attempt but it's finally here. Both Mike Paul & I attempted the challenge at 230 yards and both of us hit our mark on the 6th shot from our CZ 455's.

Scott, That is a lever on the bipod that allows the rifle to be positioned level-even if the ground is not. Unlock the lever to set the cant on your rifle, then lock it-or your can leave it loose to adjust for level on the fly-

Great shooting. This is the real thing. Prone from normal conditions off a bipod. Anyone that can do this in less than 10 shots is doing well.

10mph 90 degree @100 yards is 6 inches for most .22 ammo, 3" for Lapua Midas+. Hard as hell shot either way, and I'm saying this BEFORE I've seen how you did. So I'm prepared to be wrong.

Not sure what editing software you use, but you can improve the slow-mo sound quite a bit if you use something called "lock to stretch" in the pitch settings for a slowed down clip. That''s what it's called in Sony Vegas, but I'm sure most editing programs have a similar option. Anyway, it compensates for the slowed down audio and it's a much more clean sound instead of having that distorted crash cymbal normally caused by slowing down audio.
@BabyStomperKawaii

+Erwin Rommel I should add, a good example of making use of that audio pitch option is if you check out the slow-mo shots at the end of a hickok45 video.

Good shooting, brother!!! I love shooting .22's. I easily go thru 1,000 rounds a week. I love my Marlin 881 bolt action, but I have my eye on a CZ. Which is better? 452 or 455? My brand new stock 10/22 carbine is a joke for accuracy. I replaced the scope, with a cheap 5 MOA red dot. 10/22 is easily the worst gun that I own. Yet, people still praise them..... I don't get it. Hell, my $100 Rossi out shoots it!!! lol

Rewatching this video.... you really need a can on the end of that monster. While the Dead Air Armament Mask HD is tempting, have you considered a Form1 build? While it is cheaper, more importantly (at least to me) if you build it yourself you can tweak it to optimize for accuracy and minimal POI shift. The ability to tweak a can, a lot like your load on centerfire rifles, IMO is invaluable. Food for thought.

+Whatfor5 Just days after this was filmed my Silencerco Sparrow stamp came in so I'm running that now and the rifle shoots even better. Our most recent video was a review of the Dead Air Mask HD. That thing is impressive. Absolutely not first round pop like the sparrow but the designer who we interviewed and shot with said that the sparrow is still the most accurate. He use to be the designer at Silencerco before dead air. He designed the osprey! Check it out.

+Long Range Shooters of Utah Very familiar with the Osprey, Sparrow, Mask, so on and so forth. Designed and built the odd can myself. ;) The Osprey, you'll note, is actually fairly inefficient for its volume. While sacrifices are obviously made for its eccentric bore, it has about 30% more volume than its competitors for no practical gain in suppression. It does however sacrifice serviceability by the ELU and also necessarily narrows its range of applicable calibers. All for a higher price. All in all, it does in a way surprise me that it was the can which put SCO on the map, as it is little more than an impractical style gimmick. Go quite a few years back, to the beginning of the AAC Black Box days, and it'd have seemed like a mildly tastier option as there were fewer competitive options, cans in general were less efficient, and things weren't so feature rich as they are now but even by the time it came out it was fairly obsolete, even next to its stablemate the SWR Octane. At the end of the day, suppressor design is a balance of factors, but most ELUs don't require this balance in practice, they only feel they do in theory/marketing; if you know your application, you can readily Form 1 a can which will fulfill your role in .22 as well or better than a commercial unit for a fraction of the price which in this case is accuracy and suppression in fixed mount rifle applications. My 2c.

ive been shooting on and off my whole life, but never really understood the technical talk, so a couple questions. is the added weight of the bull barrel what makes those target rifles so accurate? if this is the case, maybe i could take my stock savage mark 2, 20 inch thinner barrel, add some weight and improve its accuracy. another question, were you using hollow or solid points, and did it penetrate the plywood backstop at that range?
@LongRangeShootersofUtah
@LongRangeShootersofUtah 7 жыл бұрын
+kenneth risner you typically see heavier barrels on precision rifle for a few reasons not all of which apply to 22lr. 1- when viewed in slow motion a barrel whips like licorice when fired. Heavier or short barrels are stiffer and don't whip as much. Less whip = more consistency = better precision. 22's don't whip near as much. 2-Harmonic also plays a role, that why some benchrest or fclass 22 shooters use tuners on their barrels. They can change the position of a weight or add weight to the barrel until they find a good harmonic where it shoots best. 3 - weight, heavier barrels = heavier rifles which recoil less and less recoil general helps the shooter shoot better. Ammo was Lapua Center X which is competition grade match ammo. Runs $125 per 500 rounds. All match ammo for 22's is sub sonic meaning it's 1100 FPS or slower depending on air thickness. When a bullet goes transonic aka goes from supersonic to subsonic it tends to cause some degree of loss of stability which hurts precision. Standard velocity or high velocity 22 LR ammo is supersonic only briefly then goes transonic which only benefits you if you're shooting a varmint close range or you're clueless about external ballistics as 99% of consumers are. When average joe buys ammo he automatically thinks that more speed is good and generally that can be true but not for 22's when precision is your goal. They even sell a special bisthalon version the ammo we use here designed for colder temps where the sound barrier is closer to 1000 rather than 1100 FPS. The same goes for high precision air rifles. They try to stay under the sound barrier. I hope that helps. it was a great answer brother. reason i asked is because ive seen vids where people were making 400 yard plus shots with common rifles such as a marlin model 60, or a stock 1022. i was thinking either these guys are some kinda magicians or doctoring up the video lol
