Thanks for the video Peter! I noticed you had the original module cover off. May I suggest another video on how you opened that module and let us have a look inside both the broken one and let us have a look inside the fake module? It could be fun to see how the manufacturer just filled the unit with rocks lol

Hi Peter, Great video and interesting to me as I'm looking for a spare complete PA module as I've picked up a cheap FT-736R with one missing. I have a good original M57762 module I've had for years, but the alloy housing with PCB, relay, socket etc is missing from the radio. Just a couple of points: The M57762 is ESD sensitive and was supplied in a shielding bag with dissipative foam between the pins for physical and ESD protection. I would suggest you should only handle it at an ESD workstation and whilst you're grounded via a wrist-strap bonded to the work mat. It would be a shame to kill it even before it's installed. Oh and don't forget to ensure your soldering iron is bonded and your tools are ESD safe. When you assemble the module, fit it to the metal backplate before soldering the pins to the PCB, as otherwise you can get it slightly out of place if you solder it to the board first which can put a strain on the fragile pins when you screw it to the housing which can break them away leaving the module scrap.

When you receive parts from China on Ebay, never ever confirm you have received it. If it doesn't work, go in and say you never received the items, and say you want your money back. Thank you for your instructional videos Peter, you and Mr Carlson are the best electronic teachers on the net. You explain so even an old man like me understand :) Take care, 73 LB5JG - Asle

Nice repair. I guess if the power module was not available anymore, the rest of the transceiver still works. I have a five year old sound bar for the large screen TV. The MOSFET in the power supply failed. A search from my usual suppliers: Mouser, Digi-key and Newark yielded "obsolete". Luckily, I found an updated replacement. It seems that newer electronics have become throw-away products. Thanks for the video Peter.

Congrats on getting a working PA module and fixing it, Peter! Yes, I know a bit or two about bad Mitsubishi power modules.. I have an old 2-meter allmode with a Mitsubishi M57713. I have replaced modules several times! The ones from China seem to be pulls from scrapped radios (sold as "seller refurbished"..) They open the modules and solder on new leads, glue the cover back again and put them on eBay.. Once I got one which worked, once I got one sent as a replacement, which also worked. The reason they failed here is too high temperature and long TX times. Seems impossible to get this module in new condition

I'm glad to see you were ultimately able to obtain a working PA Peter. Another job well done. I feel your pain concerning the fake parts coming out of China. I need to replace the NVRAM module in an old Tek scope that is long obsolete as well. The only replacement I could find is a knock-off that is claimed to have come out of the Philippines. My confidence of it working is very, very low I am afraid.

Hi Peter. I’ve just caught up with this video and loved the out of radio testing of the module. I have a Kenwood TM-255E in at the moment with the same problem. It uses a M67727 module. So far I’ve ordered 2 from China. The 1st one they didn’t want to send and the 2nd supplier has supposedly sent one that looks very secondhand so will be interesting when it arrives. I was hoping you would have done a tear down of the old module to see what had gone as maybe it could be fixed. Well done in another great video. All the best Graham

As always you have an interesting and informative video for us. Quite educational as well. Very much enjoyed the video.

Sometimes the ex-China "pulled" used modules are genuine Mitsubishi, but are re-marked as a different type in order to fetch a much higher price. They work, but in another less desirable RF band. At a frequency different from their designed one, they usually show up as low power, or will self-oscillate. :(

you can see the sanding marks on the chinese component, you can try to rub alcohol on it and it is not rare that it will completely erase the etching on those fake components... they usually sand the die and laser etch new date codes or different brand of component... and by the way, it is 23cm band. 73
