Welldone hanging in there Frik , hopefully Weather gets much better soon, and likely will be great the day after Pietru gets back from South Africa, and hopefully she has a nice flight back. Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔👍❤

Thank you, Bob for the encouragement! Yeah, it is koowl to know in theory that you can do the stuff, but the practical experience is a whole different mind screw!

Great video! I didn't think lightning would pose such a danger to boats. Thought the water would be the easiest way for it to ground 😅 I'm happy you managed on your own for the duration of Petru's absence.

lightning can travel a heck of a distance in the water, and the trick seems to be to equaluse the polarities in the Air, as well as the polarity in the Water, so both are in balance with the different polarities. rbh, I'm still trying to get my Head around it. Touch wood, I haven't had a single lightning strike do any damage yet, in almost 60 years of Sailing, and I'd really like to know gow and why for certain. 😅 Best Wishes, and hoping you are having a Wonderful Christmas. Bob in Wales. 👍❤️

Yeah, there is also a thing called Electro Magnetic Pulse or EMP as in the movies and it is real. A direct strike is a for sure thing, but an indirect strike, i.e., EMP generated from the strike, can take your electronics out. We personally talked to a few sailors who lost their instruments via EMP. And don't get fooled by "lightning arrestors" ... just imagine an electric spark jumping 2,000ft and you want to stop it at the last inch 🤔

@@SailingSisu It would be nice if we could protect everything with something like the Gelkin Surge and Spike protection that works pretty well on Land. Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔👍❤️

Loved the video! Yikes, lightning is one of the scariest things while cruising, glad you didn’t have any strikes! I’m surprised to see how many boats were out there during hurricane season, very interesting! Cheers

Yes, the one thing we cannot control or avoid 😅 must say, it was far less boats than a few weeks before!

Hi Frik. I wonder if that app shows strike to ground or cloud to cloud strikes? But yeah, definitely a risk and scary. Thanks for sharing all this. It seems a beautiful place and snug thing to be on a boat there even with the rain and the anchorage issues and lightning. You captured the feel of it I think.

Thank you, Tony! Yes, it does show cloud to cloud or cloud to ground when one tap the lightning. I forgot to show that!

Why don’t you just print a flag on vinyl and stick it on some light weight aluminum plate, and hoist that
@SailingSisu Жыл бұрын
Great idea! We are thinking about UV and waterproof paint and just paint the flag on sambrella!

You dont want to be in Bahamas because.......Hurricanes...DUH......
@SailingSisu11 ай бұрын
Lol, yeah, but then again, everyone tells us that with today's weather technology, one knows way in advance when one is coming, is it not? That said, this non-hurricane season so far, was just as stormy and wind coming from all directions. Hurricane season or not. But I am glad you read the title 😆
@SOLDOZER11 ай бұрын
@@SailingSisu You know one is coming your direction way in advance. But you only have have about 2 or 3 day notice if its going to be direct hit or not. Hurricanes being hundreds of miles wide thats not much help for sailboats.

According to my search results, Hurricane Ian formed on September 23, 2022 and hit land a few hours later in western Cuba. Sometimes one does not have the luxury of a long warning, especially if they form inside the Caribbean. That said, our video is more about the storms since one perceive to have a long notice for hurricanes and as we did last hurricane season, stayed inside hurricane zone the whole hurricane season. The point of the video is the Thunder Storms. Glad you've enjoyed our video! Many more to come on this topic! @@SOLDOZER
