I know that feeling of going back to places where you grew up and of which you have fond memories. That was pleasant to see.

Good morning Patrick, I hope you are keeping well. It's always lovely to revisit a location that has special meaning, particularly when it relates to childhood and one's earliest memories. Strange how memories from decades past can remain in one's mind so clearly, when sometimes it's hard to remember what we had for dinner! How wonderful that your very first home is still in existence, and that you can still visit the location to reconnect from time to time. With so much change in the world, sometimes these parts of our past can be lost forever due to re-development. What a lovely area you got to live in in your earliest years. I'm so glad that you had such a nice return visit, and even had the weather to include a bit of exploration! Thankyou for sharing this important and very personal part of your past with us all Patrick. All the best, and kind regards. Martin.

Hi Martin, hope you are well too. Yes there are certainly images in that have stuck in my mind for all these years, and maybe the memory cheats as they say, but I sure have a few bits and bobs I seem to be able to remember. I was great to see my old home from the window of where I was staying. Of course, I'm conscious of filming people's houses now, so that's why I didn't highlight in the video which house it was. Glad you enjoyed this, many thanks for watching and commenting. All the best 👍

Loved that one Patrick - so good to go back and see your old place - from the window even. Nice digs! A few hiccups on trail there but hey that's the adventure in it all. You were still led to the ponds and Clanna cross roads. I so resonate with revisiting these places as you know - keep them channels open Patrick. I enjoyed the old vintage photos - they were great. Well, good going - an enjoyable adventure indeed. All the best. Mark

Morning Mark, it was fab to see my old home from the Globe Inn, which was a lovely room indeed. Yeah some of the local paths were not clear at all, so a friendly local farmer helped me out at one point. One path in Aylburton was blocked completely due to the stile being so overgrown it was impossible to get through. I found my way to where I wanted to be anyway. Pleased you liked those old photos Mark, obviously they have a personal meaning for me, so it was nice to include them in this. Glad you enjoyed this adventure Mark around the area of my first home. Thanks for watching and all the best 👍

@@solitaryrambler Hey, Patrick, I bet it did feel good to be in that nice room - nice everything. Re-the paths some are like a battle aren't they? Good of the farmer to help. Re-the pictures I love the feel of them - glad you got the story in. Yeah, it was a good walk - there was a lot in there.

It must have been sentimental to go back to the village where you were born, Patrick, and then view it from the pub where you were staying at on in this particular program. It certainly looks a nice village, as well as Aylburton. The Clanna Ponds look spectacular where they're situated. A pity that you couldn't enter the two churches, but you were rewarded with the grand view of the River Severn in the end. An enjoyable No.238, many thanks, Patrick, and take care.

Thanks Ffranc. I was born in Gloucester, but Alvington was my first home after my birth. It was indeed strange seeing my old house from the window of the room in which I was staying. It was nice to see Clanna Ponds for the first time. Yes shame about the churches, but it as a nice walk as always. The view over the Severn near the end was good way to finish. Thanks Ffranc as always for watching and commenting 👍

I was born in Cinderford but we moved to Nottingham in 1953 as it looked like the Northern Colliery would close down. We made many trips to the house my grandparents lived in in Brierley. Time seems to have slowed there because a lot was still the same !! I'm not usually a memory chaser but The Dean Forest is important to me to this day.

Well once you got away from the A48 what a quiet, beautiful and stunning bit of countryside, then you get to Clanna Ponds what a gorgeous spot for a buttie stop, we'd do exactly the same if we came across a bench with that view. Loved your personalized water bottle.

It was cool that you could see your childhood home from your window. The pub looked a nice place to stay. You didn't have much luck with this one. Two shut churches and loads of blocked paths. I'm sure they filmed Jurassic Park down one of those supposed pathways 😅 So many lanes to choose from around there and all lead to lovely green fields. That was a great view of the Severn and you managed some beautiful flower shots too. It must have brought back some memories strolling around there. Time goes too quickly. That crossroads had changed a hell of a lot over the years, as well. Looks like you had a grand old time, cheers Patrick 😊

I loved seeing my old home from my room in the Globe, which in itself had been a lovely place to stay for the few nights. Definitely not my day for churches sadly, and some of those paths were in such poor condition - one at Aylburton being totally blocked due to the path full of overgrown vegetation. I still enjoyed my day filming this though as of course it has a lot of special meaning for me. I liked to film flowers when I can as they can help to frame a picture nicely. I jsut seem to remember those old crossroads, for whatever reason, so that's why at some point I would have later taken those photos, which themselves are over 40 years old now. Glad you enjoyed it Kelly, thanks for watching 👍

Although, it's not neat, overgrown vegetation can be good for nature especially insects which then feed the birds and other wildlife.

Very impressed with your accommodation Patrick. You seem to pick really nice places to stay. Was it noisy with the pub below though? How nice to hear about your memories of early days in Alvington. I'm still intrigued about your OS map app, fitting into your choice of location. I understand about overgrown paths we've had our own experiences. Your flask looked trendy too with your own name. Liked the piano riffs in your music arrangement.

Yes the room in the Globe was great, but I don't recall it being particularly noisy. I think the noise from the main A48 was noisier! 😁 Didn't disturb me anyway. The paths were certainly hard to find in places. I couldn't even film the one path where I had to turn back as it was that overgrown. My flask was a birthday present from Linda earlier this year, I loved it. Thanks for your comments on the music again, glad you liked it. Thanks Shanita, all the best 👍

We know this area a bit after spending some time viewing properties for the past 2 years (now we think we will be retiring to The Narth area, but still not 100% sure). Not been to Clanna Ponds either - will add it to my list. I have started making videos for my channel - focusing on history whilst I walk or cycle.
