I thought that you did a 1st class job on the ROPS Joe. I have come to expect nothing less from you. Having some sort of issues with our computer. I have been able to watch your video but not comment on it. I can click the "like" button, but still couldn't comment. I still can't with "TractorMan 44" I didn't get the notifications when Dave posted for 2 videos. I checked and the bell icon was "li", but I didn't get the notifications. Not sure what is up with all of this, but glad that I still get to see the videos, even if I don't get to comment. Enjoyed a full watch Joe. Great job.

He still has to come back to get his tractor. I got a surprise for him (I hope he does not read this...). I've painted yellow stripes on the hood of his nice red Mahindra. Ok, Dave, I know you've read that. Before you have a heart attack, I have to say your tractor is monitored on a daily basis and is doing fine in the hangar. Still a plain red color on the hood. The ROPS looks good, Joe. I was hoping you would paint it CASE Orange though. As soon as you started it, I knew it was a CASE. Before I became a firefighter I had a job working for the water dept. of the town . I was an equipment operator, running a CASE loader/ backhoe. It sounded exactly like your machine.
@FromSteelToWood3 жыл бұрын
Funny you mention about the sound of a Case! The sound of this machine has changed a bit since I've used it for many hours and now sounds similar to my other Case. It's initial sound was a bit different. I guess not running for a long period of time has some effect. Mostly the rings that were dry... only a guess there! In the video, you can hear it as it should sound. Thanks Jim!

Another fine job!! The tractor starts and runs just perfect. Good for another 20 years for sure??
@FromSteelToWood3 жыл бұрын
20 years is a minimum in my opinion! Lol! Well maintained and not abused, they will last a lifetime... if only parts are still available. They were quite available at the local Case dealer until a few years ago. I guess they changed their software and now they are confused each time I ask for a part as simple as a rotor. I changed my plan and now get my parts from a specialized company based in the USA. Import and transportation fees are prohibitive, but the parts price is very cheap. I only need to plan ahead and this is still economical. Thanks Mike!

That's a long lever you have on that ROPS bar if you roll the tractor sideways or slide into a ditch so I would definitely recommend stronger supports / gussets from the mounting plates to the axle and the uprights. I was wondering why you didn't bolt straight through the thick tube on top of the axle instead of welding the plates to the side of it, that would get rid of some of the lever when you slide into that ditch if you get what I mean?
@FromSteelToWood3 жыл бұрын
Hum! Those are good points! I can recognize a good designer by your comments. You are right about the height of the ROPS. My goal was to compensate for a wider machine. I think the first role of a ROPS is to limit the roll-over to 90° if ever possible. Then if a turnover (180° or greater) is to happen, it does not kill the operator. The rear wheels having a wide thread (78 in), the ROPS needs to be a bit higher to limit or stop its rolling to only 90°, if ever possible. That is why it was set higher. That is also why I had added the gussets, which reduce the "apparent" height of the ROPS. Then the wheel itself will limit the deformation of the ROPS to some extend... The machine is 3000lb, which is quite light... that end being half of the weight too! My initial design was to go through the tubes with the bolts, but that limited my possibilities for position over the axle. That is why I went for the offset plate. Thanks!
@Dingbat2173 жыл бұрын
@@FromSteelToWood It looks like you have space for an additional support plate to be welded to the inside of the tube that gets clamped to the axle, that would make the ROPS uprights a lot stiffer sideways as they would now be supported in two places on each axle instead of just one. The forces will also turn from a twist of the welds to a tension / compression force where it should be a lot stronger/ The gussets will of-course help against some of that twist in a sideload situation. You're right it is a light-weight tractor so maybe less of a concern but I still think that the welds to the support plate is the weak spot so if you could make that stronger that would be great. You hopefully never needs the ROPS to do their thing but it can happen very quickly so it's better that they are there than you getting squashed if you go into a ditch sideways. It happened to my sisters ex-husband, they just got their new small-holding and it came with a tractor that had a ROPS bar on it, he, being un-experienced in driving tractors city-boy), wasn't expecting the slack in the steering so when he tested how fast it could drive along a gravel access-road next to a ditch he ended up in said ditch when the sloppy steering didn't react as he expected it to. No-one was hurt, even the tractor survived unscathed bar a rusty exhaust that broke off but that needed replacing anyway.

Nice job, Joe! That's a great Case machine. Really good rear tires. Does the quick hitch work for you? A lot of our 3 point attachments won't work with the quick hitch system - so I've never purchased one. But they do look like a great time (and frustration) saver! #purplecollarlife
@FromSteelToWood3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've put the quick hitch on it for my other implements, but never got the time to put any implement! This QH "should" work with my other implements, as they already work with my other Case QH. As for the offset flail mower, being so unbalanced, I prefer running it without the QH. I mean, once fully extended to the side, it exerts upward pressure on the opposite lower arm. I am not so sure, given a small tab locks the implement... This small tab would take a load that it was not mean to take (in my opinion!). Thanks!
