In part one of this video segment, Pete Aardema will explain the development of his 93-year-old Ford Model A engine that is officially in the books as the fastest Ford Model A on the planet with a record speed set at Bonneville in August of 2012 at 238.598 mph. Remarkably a top speed of 240 MPH was measured on the back up run. Several years ago, Pete and Kevin modified this 1929 Model A engine and made special cylinder heads with dual overhead cams and achieved a land speed record of 238.598 MPH at Bonneville. This was all done in a blown gas streamliner in the vintage four-cylinder classification which is designated for pre-1935 four-cylinder engines up to 220 cubic inches in displacement. In part two of this video, Pete and Kevin will disassemble the engine and you will see how this one-of-a-kind masterpiece was constructed.
You can see photos of the vehicle here at the Speedway Motors Museum at this link. www.museumofam...

There's two types of people! The people who talk about doing things then there's the people who do things. I would love to know a lot more about there career and accomplishments they've done. Guys like this help win WWII anything was possible at one time we built great things and made things to last. Most of America's manufacturing is gone so when I see these guys still dreaming up engine combinations and getting out and breaking record's and proving old and new technology is alive and well. Please keep there videos coming. Thanks guys!

@@yungdolphin9130 no unfortunately not, I live in Sweden. I am going to attempt a parallel twin flat track engine build using Subaru block and cylinder head. I have a scrap 2.5 Subaru boxer engine and the idea is to adapt it to fit a classic parallel twin motorcycle engine and then enter it into a classic flat track event. The older motorcycle engines have limited tunability so the idea came to mind to do something similar to what Pete did with the model A.

I've read about the engines that people build for Bonneville and other top-speed venues and they never cease to amaze me. There's no money in it for them, unless they can sell the design to somebody else to produce and how many people would want (or have the money to buy) an overhead conversion for a Model A?

I wonder if Pete has ever given a thought to making a two stoke motor and run in the fuel class. My thoughts were that this might eliminate possibilities of valve train breakage. Also, not sure if one couldn't use nitrous directly port injected to act as a boost with the two-stroke idea. Imagine a six cylinder 2-liter two stroke motor and what it might sound like! surprised nobody hasn't made a two stroke with maybe tangent located cylindrical rotating valves to allow better fuel/air and exhaust control. A supercharger could also be used with the cylindrical barrel valves as well. And no this wouldn't work on a model A block but maybe best on top of a bearing motorcycle lower.

What crank that with five mains might be. I can hear some stupid say "will that fit in there" well you make it fit, you don`t order from catalog BUT its sure nice to know what cylinder intervals are on what ever engine. Honda uses 94,5 mm. and the motor I play with has 95 mm. intervals, so it is manageable. I wish that someone would make videos from my doings as well. Stay well.

@@Joe-kf1dy - without original heads, crank and gearing, basically everything but the stock block. Metal is metal and there is nothing special about a huge chunk of metal thats the same type of metal in blocks we use now. In fact, we now use aluminum thats less structurally sound than the block they are using. That makes it even MORE less impressive. If it impresses you, thats fine.
