Gospel
Lk 8:16-18
Jesus said to the crowd:
“No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel
or sets it under a bed;
rather, he places it on a lampstand
so that those who enter may see the light.
For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible,
and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.
Take care, then, how you hear.
To anyone who has, more will be given,
and from the one who has not,
even what he seems to have will be taken away.”
Reflections:
Today’s Gospel passage differentiates between light (good) and darkness (evil). Sin brings in darkness. A lighted lamp dispels the darkness. Each one is called to be a lamp dispelling the darkness of sin in the world. But first, we have to dispel the darkness in ourselves. A lamp, to light, requires fuel (oil or wax or electricity). The word of God and prayer is our fuel.
We spread our light not only by our preaching, but example and good works. St Francis of Assisi said, “Preach the Gospel at all times, only if necessary, use words.”
Activity - Today preach the gospel in all your actions.
