Why We Sleep is not my favorite book ever but probably the most impactful of the 500 or so I’ve read. It changed so many of my habits to get better sleep.

omg really? you've now bumped up that book on my TBR 🫡

Yes, definitely. Just based on items in the book, I did the following: (1) reduced caffeine intake past Noon, (2) bought blackout curtains for my bedroom, (3) made a cooler sleeping environment and stopped wearing heavy clothing to bed, (4) reduced computer and phone usage late night, and (5) kept reading physical books (which I already did) but Walker discusses how e-books don't help the reader get tired more naturally than a physical book. @@katerinareem

very interesting to know, thank you sm for listing these! I seem to already do 1 to 3 but I definitely need to break habits 4 and 5 as I am sooo bad for looking at screens before bed

ohh i JUST finished the idiot yesterday! it is VERY plotless, suuuper slice-of-life. selin's head is really interesting (and sometimes relatable) to be in. it's really just musings on life from someone who is quite lost, which can be comforting, but i didnt feel like the book offered any "answers" in the end (a pro or a con depending on the reader). i liked it, but it is quite slow. i know there's a sequel -- not sure if it gives any more direction to the character or the readers.

i love books like that to be honest so it sounds like exactly my cup of tea !! also love that you've already read quite a few books in this list already, you have great taste!

Loving this compilation! I also have Atomic Habits and Why We Sleep on my 24 in 2024 list, but in general I also want to get to The Idiot, Demon Copperhead and Shuggie Bain. Pachinko lived up to the hype for me, and I liked My Body a lot more than I thought I was going to!

thank you so much audrey !! i just finished reading atomic habits and i would def recommend. so glad to hear you enjoyed pachinko - i heard some people say it dragged so i've been slightly unsure about reading it!

Hii just found your channel! You'll love My sister the serial killer, it's such a great book with so much on family relationships and Nigerian culture 🤗 Also, let me reassure you. A good girl's guide to murder IS a great book and it was known and loved a looong time before it became a "tiktok book" 😉

ooo i'm even more excited to read my sister the serial killer !! and thank you for the reassurance on a good girl's guide to murder lololol - sometimes i never know with booktok recs as my track record hasn't been great😭

@@katerinareem I totally get it, usually tiktok books are a massive fail with me, so I thought a reassurance was indeed worth it :P Tbh, I wasn't a fan of the 3rd book in the series but the first two were truly great!

My dark Vanessa was such a great (though uncomfortable) book! I read it in 2023 and still think about it from time to time.

I have "The Idiot" on my book shelf to read. Elif Batuman released another book, which I believe is a continuation of "The Idiot" called "Either/Or". I hope to read both this year. Happy New Year, all the best to you
@katerinareem7 ай бұрын
oh wow i didn't realise she released a sequel to it - please let me know how you find both of them, i'm keen to find out if the sequel is also worth a read! happy new year to you also

pachinko is one of my all-time favorite books. some people say the ending feels rushed/doesnt wrap up nicely enough, and i think the criticism is fair. i don't mind the ending though. i find a lot of long-spanning generational have the same issue. i'm willing to overlook it, but others might not be as willing :)
@katerinareem5 ай бұрын
it's a shame when endings are rushed but i sometimes think that doesn't take away from the book as a whole if it was 10/10 up until then! great to hear you enjoyed it, you've made me look forward to reading it even more
