Time and place knocks off a TON of points for me. In show time, he's known she's liked Jess for either 7 or 8 months, and has chosen to stay silent. Rory's behavior was terrible, but at that point Dean's contributing to the problem, and instead of talking to her and saying everything he was absolutely right about at some time, he dumps it on her when she's been up for almost 24 hours. He at least slept past 6.

He wasn't even wrong to do it in front of everybody, since she was jealously fighting with Jess in front of him and everybody and trying to make Jess jealous. I wouldn't wait till later to break up with her either. You have to have some self-respect.

@@HuntingViolets exactly, thank you! at that point rory has been treating him like garbage and gaslighting him for months. a lot of it was in public, not just this episode, but e.g. in "a-tisket, a-tasket". she deserved all of this. it seems to me that a lot of people have such an irrational hatred for dean that, even when he's clearly in the right, they still have to find something to criticize him for.

I love Rory, but she absoluuuutely deserved everything she got this episode. I'm not mad at Dean for the timing nor the place, honestly. He just couldn't take it anymore and since Rory was making a fool of Dean in front of everyone else, he had every right to break it off then and there, in my opinion. Again, I love Rory, but I don't hate Dean for what he did here.

I believe when Jackson mentions Winona Ryder he’s referencing the Crucible, which if you don’t know is a play about the Salem witch trials! Winona had been in the movie adaptation just a few years before this season cane out :)

People hating Rory is because they idolized her and viewed her as a princess (much like the townspeople of stars hollow) but then the story has moments of showing her humanity and how she makes mistakes and fans turn on her because it goes against their perfect image of her in their minds 😂. To me, I'm sometimes annoyed by Lorelai and Rory both but I've never hated them because they have their positive aspects and their faults.

100% plus I also think it's backlash to all the townspeople acting like she's the greatest person to ever be born in history. But people often have blinders on about the people they love, and that includes the residents of Stars Hollow! Rory sucks sometimes, but in a very human way. Some people just can't handle when their protagonists have flaws lol

PEOPLE HATING RORY ? what ? when ? why ?! Growing up, Rory was one of my icon (with Joey from Dawson and other girls from tvshows/movies with... a certain type = bookworm type 🤣) & I always love her now, as an adult. She make mistakes - a loooooot of mistakes - & can be boring but still... I think she's a pretty realist character at the end ☺

While I’m glad Rory and Dean finally broke up, it didn’t really feel right how he did it right in front of the whole town. Then again, Rory kind of did the same thing. I mean, in terms of humiliation, she acted like his girlfriend while she obviously had feelings for Jess -- and she did this in front of everyone.

Look into the 1920's dance marathons. It was horrid..and they were humiliated and tortured while doing it. All because they were so desperate. This episode is specifically based on the movie, they shoot horses dont they? Its a real thing that happened...and went on for MONTHS. As in dancing for 5+ months. With only small little breaks

Sookie deserved so much better than edning up with this boring man-child, trying to force his wife to have 4 kids without caring about how she feels about it, and what that would do to her physical and mental health.
