Astoria, Oregon is a beautiful coastal city, with lots of charm and history. I had hoped for sunny skies but mother nature had other plans. I certainly still enjoyed my 24 hours in Astoria, and cannot wait to return.
Here are some of the activities I checked out during my stay.
✅ Astoria Megler bridge is over 4 miles long. It is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. Connects Oregon and Washington!
✅The Astoria Column, in a wooded park atop Astoria's highest hill, presents a spectacular view of the historic city and its surrounding rivers, bay, forest. It was completed in 1926. It It is 125 feet tall and has 164 steps.
✅Astoria Riverwalk also known as the Astoria River Trail, stretches along part of the Astoria & Columbia River Railroad, providing a scenic view of the river with stops along the way for food and beverages and a museum.
✅Downtown Astoria offers lots of nice shops and restaurants. In addition you will find museums and the Garden of Surging Waves a city park designed to honor and celebrate the Chinese heritage of Astoria and the Lower Columbia River Basin.
✅Fort Clatsop / The Lewis and Clark National Historical Park - it commemorates the 1805-06 winter encampment of the 33-member Lewis and Clark Expedition. In addition, you will find wonderful walking trails. Don’t forget your National Park Passport to get it stamped!!

✅Fort Stevens State Park/The Peter Iredale Shiwreck
It was abandoned on Clatsop Spit near Fort Stevens in Warrenton about four miles south of the Columbia River channel. Under strong winds out of the west, an attempt was made to wear the ship away from shore, but a heavy northwest squall grounded Peter Iredale on Clatsop Sands. High seas and wind drove the ship ashore.
