Been to Darwin several times by virtue of me being active duty in the US NAVY from 1984 to 2004 and several years in the Military Sealift Command (merchant marines), and it was a regular stop for us as well as Cairns and Perth. I love smaller towns in any ports that we visit. Thank you Molly and Matt for visiting and giving me back great old memories of my visits!

Didn't expect this. Welcome to Straya! I went to Darwin for the first time back in late June and I loved it there. The whole vibe and scenery is great. Lots of great scenic places if I can recommend some stuff, I see you already watched the sunset, but if the sky becomes clear everyone recommends to go to the casino, walk through to the back and they have bars outside where you can eat/drink and watch the sunset from there. They have great food there too, drinks, and a guy playing the guitar as the sun sets (at least when I was there there was), behind the palm trees and the sky goes orange like the mural in Scarface. And the newsagency at the Smith Street Mall is where you can buy the infamous "CU in the NT" t-shirt. Oh and Lola's Pergola at the Cullen Bay marina, they have good burgers and pizzas and you're pretty much on the marina with an scenic view of boats and buildings, it's probably my favourite place in the whole of Darwin to just chill out. There's also the military museum, and the WWII tunnel, lots of history and lots to see in Darwin, you really gotta spend a week there to experience everything.

I’ve Been fortunate to visit Darwin two times because my brother moved there permanently from the Uk 2 yrs ago. He now has a small family with his Australian wife. I’ve been in both wet and dry season. I really like it there regardless of the weather which can be pretty extreme some times. There is so many outdoor activities to do. Particularly in the dry season (around may ) they have so many cultural festivals , almost every weekend. The national parks have to be the absolute gem ! There is a lot of Opportunity in Darwin, It’s a very prosperous area with so much potential. I’m surprised it’s not as popular as other parts of Australia. Worlds away from the Uk. ! But I think in near future , the tiny airport will be expanded to accommodate more international flights which will likely one day make it a popular tourist destination, I imagine. But for now it’s a lovely, relaxing place to go and also full of adventurous things to do.

Got there August '80 as a 22yr old...left January ' 18 as a 60yr old. Early years a bit rough and ready but an exciting time for a young tradie. Sadly the crime rate is a huge problem now across the north. Sorry but watch your security ! Getting tired of sweating the wet finally drove me home to the West but can't help but carry great memories of my life in the Top End !😎👍

Hello Matt and Molly, it was nice to see you in Darwin. It is where all the big mining companies explore Iron Ore. It is too hot for me. I was offered a job, but I declined it because of the heat. But if you are a steedy person. You can be a millionaire in 5 years. I know one of my friends worked somewhere in the mines, and in 10 years. He owned 5 or 6 houses. One thing please do not swim in those waters, and do not walk in the bush with short pants. The reason I am saying this is, snakes are bad there, and they are poisonous. Take care, and stay safe.
