When my toddler has a tantrum I have a rule for myself where first I acknowledge their emotion letting them know it’s okay to have those big feelings, then I tell him why he can’t do the thing he is doing, and then give him one or two things that he CAN do. This is really a game changer for us, obviously first trying to prevent the tantrums in the first place but like in your case you couldn’t have anticipated her getting upset over not having more oranges. So for example in this case I would say, “i see you are upset that your oranges are all gone. We don’t have any more, but we can color a picture for daddy, or we can go take some deep breathes outside and see how many cars we can count! Which would you like to do?” It gives them a sense of control. If it’s a smaller thing like this I think distraction is best. Offering them a different food likely will upset them so you want to detract the attention from food and give them options that might excite them. Hope this helps!

My parents would do the "I'll give you something real to cry about method". My mother was so self centred, she would never let anyone express any other emotion than being happy 24/7. Even in circumstances of the death of my best friend. Parents who raise their children like you're doing make me so jealous. I wish I had that.

As a speech-language pathologist, this is the best advice to parents on increasing their child's verbal skills! Also, a child's play is their learning time (turn-taking, requesting, joint attention etc.) so have productive playtime! And remember, a child will know 50 words before they can say 10, so if they seem to have a limited, don't freak out! You got this!

You never want to cause a scene by yelling at them, it will make it worse. You’ll be able to resume whatever your doing with a happy baby, unless she’s tired 💕❤️

Toddler tantrums are her feeling big feelings and not knowing how to handle them! Whether she's in public or not, I think a good thing to try would be to meet her where she's at, show her that you understand her emotions, and co regulate with her before correcting any misbehaviors or focusing on the root of the tantrum. Have her practice things like hugging you/rocking back and forth with you, deep breathing, etc. while she's calm so that her body will learn that feeling of relaxation and it'll help her when she's in an escalated state of mind. Meeting her where she's at, showing her that you understand, co regulating, offering little distractions to gently shift her emotional state, and then having a conversation to correct any misbehaviors or talk about what caused the tantrum if necessary is generally a good approach. Toddlers can't process complicated language when they're feeling big feelings, and even if it's in public it's okay to step out to the car to calm down. Even adults need to step out and take a break sometimes! I'm not a mom, but I have a psychology background and experience working with kids :)

I am not a parent but a much older sibling and I find the approach of gentle parenting/responsive parenting really good, especially because the child herself mostly doesn't even know why she is mad or wants to cry and scream and gentle parenting is a way of trying for them also to understand themselves better, of course this won't work immediatly or anything like that, but it is way for them and also you to handle all these big emotions (Iespecially like mommacusses on youtube, she is great)

advice on the tantrums from a nursing student with no kids, they taught us to let the child have that tantrum especially at that age. allow them to act out because the only reason why they’re doing it is because they want a reaction from you. once they know they can get your attention, they’ll continue to do it and get their way. allowing them to have their tantrum will let them realize what they’re doing won’t let them get their way, and it will help a lot with how they act in the future. hope this helps🫶🏼

We missed you threee...... But glad you guys are fine. We were concerned. Btw if she is misbehaving and it is really getting embarrassing for you, you can Do one thing to stop. You should tell her to stop first time and then if she repeats tell her you won't talk to her if she acts like that and literally stop taking for a while. But then hug her and tell her why you were not talking to her. She is intelligent. And Kayla, you're a great mom. Don't you ever feel low.

Awh!! Remember practicing feeling calm, because tantrums affect your stress and stimulation levels as a parent. Girls pick up on emotional states very easily, even when they're being told otherwise, I'd say first step is to make sure you're okay by taking some good breaths and then take baby outside in a good area for her to feel/talk out with you on eye-level. :)) something my mom tells me is that I'll never see anyone I see in public again most likely, not to be inconsiderate to them, but to help me de-stress when I feel most eyes are on me in a circumstance
