Counterargument on Google Keep is that it is cross-platform: you can access those notes on every device on any platform as long as you have an internet connection, while on Apple Notes if i don't carry my iPad with me and at work all machines use Windows, you can't access those notes unless you share them somewhere else.

I unfortunately had to use Google keep for an entire 2 minutes when I had to transfer my notes from Samsung to Apple. My hands shook from fear as I pressed the install button. When I saw the interface for the first time, terror coursed through my veins. My fight or flight response kicked in, and before I knew it I had run out of the house screaming in horror just like my wife years before... but amidst the chaos, I knew what had to be done. "It'll only take a few moments," I tell myself. I turn around unsteadily, shaking in my boots like Boris whenever he enters Parliament. Crawling back into the house by my fingernails, my bloodied hand wakes the computer. There it was. Google Keep. That's the last thing I remembered. I immediately fell unconscious. I woke up two years later from a coma, and the first thing I see is overlord Larry Page and daddy Sergey Brin arguing next to my bedside... "Another Google keep victim... how many more will there be, Sergey?" pleads Larry. Sergey responds, "At least he wasn't famous. Remember the cover-up we had to do when Google Keep killed Tupac?" Sergey glances towards my direction and sees that I have awoken. "He's alive... my God, there's hope... if he woke up, maybe Juice WRLD could too!" he cries in excitement as he tosses a packet of paper at me, without even looking in my direction. I couldn't move my hands, so the packet just hits me in the face. I take a glance at the contents to see it is an NDA. Hmph, of course it is, I think to myself. But the NDA didn't matter to me. Not even lord Larry and daddy Sergey. Why? It's because I have found a new purpose in life, one that I will stop at nothing to achieve... to destroy my mortal enemy, Google Keep.

@@JamesStuber Totally agree. I have an 8 year old second brain on Keep because it does 90% of my needs insanely well. A more powerful app is not necessarily the better app. It depends not only on the use case, but also the time needed to learn a new application and transfer everything over to it. Applications like Notion don’t add enough for me to devote the time need to reorganize my notes. So I stay with Apple Notes, which I think is one of the most underrated apps in the MacOS ecosystem.

I used to use Evernote in college a decent amount. I haven't had too much use for note taking the past few years. Most of my work stuff is done in BaseCamp and I love Trello for organizing personal stuff (from Travel to tech projects to job hunting, it's great.) My use case for notes has increased a lot lately so I thought I'd poke around and wow I love Obsidian. It can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. The UI is absolutely perfect and the community plugins are great. More people really need to know about it. I'm not sure what more you could really want out of a note taking app. It feels like a similar experience to VSCode but for note taking which is a great thing imo. So far I only have the "Editing Toolbar By Cuman" plugin installed and it adds some handy rich text editor functionality to the top of the app which works great.

But you'd listed in comments "*Writing Apps*", and it's a power writing and authoring tool, though I wouldn't use it for notes such as study summaries, study guides, family planning, brainstorming etc., but would exclusively use it for novels, short stories, poems, and screenplay scripts.. For me, Milanote + Apple Notes + Apple Reminders + Google Drive is my new core toolset for notes, collections, habits, and reminders. But once I'm further down the road, I'll use Scrivener exclusively for writing. I was just curious, just from the category as I said, but over all the video was good for me in particular. I’m currently evaluating Obsidian. In like having notes on the file system , which makes them easy to search in the OS(for me Mac OS ). But I don’t like the lack of note metadata like geolocation, url, date created/updated that Joplin had in the note’s “information” window. Also the web page clipping solutions I found for obsidian are lackluster. I like obsidian enough that I’m considering using both applications for the functions each is best at.
@majorgear10214 ай бұрын
I ended up dropping Obsidian because of horrible mobile syncing, including their official paid sync . I’m currently back on Joplin with the ideas that my confidential notes will stay there, and I’ll find another app with Web accessible notes and markdown for information I need to access on computers aren’t mine like my employer’s laptop. I’m willing to trade some features for the browser/Web access. So I guess split notes is where it’s at. ps private notes have data like my ssn, journal , etc that I wouldn’t want to be synced to a computer that I don’t own.

I primarily use my 2020 iPad as a writing device. The major problem I've encountered with apple notes is that if you continue to write a somewhat lengthy note the app slows down, & your apple pencil inputs begin to lag. The only solution thus far that I've encountered is to periodically break down a longer handwritten note with some typed text. This is unacceptable & makes me question how an integral Apple App can have such a glaring issue that has still not been fixed. Currently I'm relying on good notes 5 for handwriting, then transferring either as PDF/IMG into obsidian.

I really need a "folder base app" like evernote that I can use on windows and mobile but is free or has a one time payment rather then a subscription. Do you have any recommendations?

It's getting harder and harder to find non-subscription based apps. Evernote lets you sync up to two devices for free. Obsidian is free but their syncing service is a monthly subscription. There are other ways to sync obsidian, e.g. with Dropbox: help.obsidian.md/Getting+started/Sync+your+notes+across+devices OneNote can be purchased for a one-time payment if you buy the Microsoft Office Suite

What about things or things 3?

Google Keep is lovely. I use it extensively, when someone needs me to buy a few things I just get a list with check boxes, and they share it via Google's sharing system. I check the box of the products I bought and my partners can have a follow up immediately. I have color codes for different categories so if I don't want to type to search for things such as a friend's "apartment number + pin" code to enter the building I can just scroll through really fast and look at the yellow backgrounds. When I'm looking for a book, or an article I wanted to read I scroll and as soon as I find the red backgroun I'm there. This is even faster than searching. When I'm done, I swipe the note outside the screen and thus put it into the archive when I'm done with it. I have info on when the note was modified/created. I can setup reminders, recurring reminders to check different things. I can pin the most important notes on top. I can add photos so when I go to a place to fix something I can include visual information. I can add voice memo. I can draw similarly to how we do it in Paint. I can make a copy of the original as if it was a sample, then modify a little if needed. I mean other apps can have more functionalities but simplicity is important for me.

Which one works with git though? I want to be able to version my notes and none of them is very clear on git support :( edit: I remembered the FOAM extension in vscode. Don't know why I stopped using it though.

onenote a b ? and remnote an s ? you can't make a "local" database without logging in. well if i put the installer on a laptop without internet, i can't use it so from the start is useless. this tier list is very awkward.

How do you keep all your notes organized if you are using so many apps? Are you switching between products a lot?

Which occupies the least space in storage on iPad? And it will be one page, not like a big canvas. I will take a lot of notes, so which one is better to write and will take less space. Which one is better to convert to PDF?
