24 PINTS OF GELATO CHALLENGE! | 22,000 Calories | Twins vs. Talenti

Between the warmer weather setting in and having gotten our first taste of Talenti in our recent Oreo challenge, we felt it was finally time to tackle one of our most frequently requested food challenges: ice cream! While gelato and ice cream may differ slightly in both preparation and ingredients, we figured the similarities of these frozen desserts would both satisfy the desires of the ice cream loving members within the Takedown Tribe while allowing us to explore a realm of frozen treats outside of the copious amounts of Ben & Jerry’s we’ve consumed in our day. While 24 pints and nearly 22,000 calories of gelato certainly proved to be a worthy and feisty opponent, this food challenge meets mukbang was a blast for us to film and may have found us a new favorite line of ice cream!

FAQ’s:
Q: How do you not gain weight?
A: Endurance sports (primarily running, cycling and some resistance training tossed in) and extreme discipline & sacrifice with our daily diets is how we manage not to gain weight. We eat mostly vegetables, fruits, some whole grains and low fat dairy on the days outside these challenges. The calories consumed in a food challenge are the only calories consumed that day and sometimes the day following as well seeing our appetites are typically shot from so much food and the thought of eating is very off putting. Two days out we are back to large amounts of vegetables and increase to maintenance from there. We also often eat most of our days calories in a smaller eating window (we frequently bounce between intermittent fasting & OMAD diet as it just seems to work with our lifestyles and eating preferences). Anyone with a larger than normal stomach capacity like us, the drive to push through the discomfort of a challenge like this, and a basic understanding of energy balance (calories in vs calories out) can do it with enough disciple and intention (not that we recommend it).
Also worth mentioning is that we do not exercise to burn the calories consumed in a challenge but rather we are able to consume higher calorie diets due to our love for endurance sports and said discipline with our daily diets.
Q: Can you make a “What I eat in a day” / fitness focused video?
A: While we’re sure that type of video will eventually make its way out there, we are only able to produce one piece of quality content with our current schedules. We’re still in the very early stages of establishing ourselves within the food challenge genre and we’re constantly experimenting & trying to improve upon our style to make our channel/challenges a unique experience. This channel in particular will most likely always primarily revolve around food challenges but, if this ever became a legitimate source of income and we were able to focus our full attention towards creating content, our goal would be to start a second channel to offer more of a look into that side of our lives. So, for now, food challenges are the name of the game.

Happy we had your favorite on the menu! Stoked to have you here! Well this was quite easy on the jaws as melty ice cream doesn’t require much chewing and the add-ins were generally quite soft here as well. During a normal challenge it’s never really a problem for us as we’re used to eating for these durations and typically are eating fruits and vegetables on the day to day that require much more jaw strength. The only two challenges we recall being a big problem with the jaws were our m&m challenge and trying to see how many quest bars we could eat in a single sitting (by far the hardest). Some day we’re considering doing all nuts or clif bars or something which will probably be paiiiinful for the jaws 😆 we’ll probably be eating for like 2 hours with one of those ones haha!

First of all I love your channel. The next time you do an ice cream challenge make sure you have a cup or a mug of hot water. Thanks so much, Markus! Ended up being a lot of fun with how things played out (until it inevitably wasn’t 😆😆 you know the deal). Haha, yes, highly encourage any of those additions to an ice cream challenge - we didn’t bother with hot beverages ourselves seeing the amount we would have to drink to balance out all the cold cream would have made it unrealistic to hit roughly 10lbs of product before the weight of liquids, but if you’re not running the line of a max-out situation, we’re sure that would be a smart addition 🤘🤘

Both of you have definitely proven yourselves. The dairy, the volume, the temperature, and the amount of sugar makes it a daunting challenge that many other food competitors don't like to do. It's a shame because ice cream is the best!

Haha, yeah, hot liquids definitely would have helped but we hadn’t done out the math for the exact weight of the 12 pints and weren’t sure if we would be maxing our stomach capacities. If that was going to be the case any addition of fluids would make the challenge impossible to finish with the fact that we’d max out before getting all the food down. So we decided to play it safe and do without the hot beverages to better our chances of fitting it all in 😎 Much love!

So good! Luckily there was no flavor fatigue during this challenge 😁 so much variety, it never got old. Just difficult! As for the hot liquids, we knew this was going to be a lot of weight, but hadn’t done out the math for JUST how much it was and weren’t sure if we would be maxing our stomach capacities. If that was going to be the case any addition of fluids would make the challenge impossible to finish with the fact that we’d max out before getting all the food down, so we decided to play it safe and do without the hot beverages to better our chances of fitting it all in 😎 Much love!

Ended up being the ideal temp for us tbh! Just enough “liquid to solid” balance for us not to get too many brain freezes and also be able to taste the flavors more (more difficult to taste when it’s entirely frozen). Still quite a difficult task nonetheless 😆 Much love!

LOL! We totally get that 😆 that massive challenge we mentioned in the intro that we’re going to be doing is that exact scenario! Something so incredibly horrible that only one person has attempted and said would never be tried again/possibly the worst thing they’ve ever done that we’re just stupid enough to want to do now 😆😆 I think Pete meant to say Erik and Beard, but yeah, less pints would probably be a bit more manageable! In that case you could probably bring some hot water and that might help move things along or warm the stomach?? Not quite sure, but it’s certainly a special kind of discomfort and unwell feeling by the end if you’re pushing the volume on top of the cold and lactose elements 😅

That Apple pie was spectacular! The creaminess of that cinnamon gelato with the added texture from pie crust, chew of the apples, and dulce de leche swirl?? HIGHLY recommended. Haha, yeah. We thought about bringing in a hot beverage, but we hadn’t done out the weight for the challenge yet and weren’t sure if we were going to be maxing out our stomach capacities. With that being the case, additional liquids would make it impossible for us to finish the challenge, so we played it safe and went without them 😁 Much love!
