Hi sir There is a VM with VMDK 100 GB and we took a snapshot, then the delta disk will create in the associated datastore. Sir, my query is how long this delta disk will grow?? What happens in case this delta disk grows more than its parent disk and how consolidation will takes place.

Hi Sir, Great question! The size and growth rate of the delta disk largely depend on the amount of changes made to the VM after the snapshot was taken. The delta disk will continue to grow as long as there are changes being made to the VM. If the delta disk grows larger than its parent disk, it can lead to issues such as performance degradation and potential datastore space constraints. To prevent this, it's essential to monitor the size of the delta disk regularly. Consolidation is the process of merging the delta disk back into the parent disk. This typically occurs during snapshot deletion or VM disk consolidation tasks. However, if the delta disk grows too large, consolidation might fail due to insufficient resources or other constraints. In such cases, manual intervention might be necessary to address the issue. It's important to carefully manage snapshots and regularly monitor VM disk usage to avoid potential problems related to delta disk growth.
