Most risk processes use a risk register to document the outputs. What is it, and why do we all need one?

A risk register document, often called a risk register log, keeps track of potential dangers that may arise directly inside a project. It also contains details on the risk's importance and propensity to occur. But levels are not clarfy to me

Thanks for your comment. Risks can occur at different levels - in a project, or at a higher level in a prtfolio, or even higher at the strategic level. We need different risk registers at each level, so that we don't mix the risks.
