I remember being in Navy boot camp and trying to qualify for a “special ops” team. (I wanted to do explosives and dynamics) Anyways, there’s an assessment you have to perform to even be considered for training. Yeah, I’m not built like that. So I became an engineer. I also remember seeing those khaki shorts (training SEALS) running around Great Lakes in below freezing weather. I always had so much respect for them just because I knew only about a third of them would actually make it through. The level of dedication to try to become a SEAL is unfathomable.

If the death is a result of the training then the process of selecting and testing applicants needs to be investigated to ensure candidates are physically able to withstand the training. I don't think it's the training that's the issue. It's either the physical and mental fitness of the ppl applying or the leaders are taking the training beyond what is necessary and endangering ppl before they've even got on the field. Not everyone can sign up to be a SEAL and there's good reason for that. But like Adrienne said health & safety still needs to be accounted for.

from a Mexican. It's time for U.S. Americans to questioned themselves as to why they need to have these type of trainings. as to why they have to have the highest military budget in the world, if the USA is the "greatest" country in the world, why does it have so many enemies, I mean we don't have enemies, we have you our biggest frenemy, but if I go one country by country only you guys claim to fight for freedom, we are also free, I know i'm going to get a lot of comments but still no one is going to answer my question. none the less, YOU ARE NOT THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, YOU NEVER BEEN. you are the richest, yes but not the greatest.. Russian troops can do push ups with only toes in the ground, hands on their backs, shirtless, outside in the snow, on the coldest day of the year. The U.S. cannot have a less demanding training regimen. The other countries are upping their game and the U.S. is a unanimous foe. Furthermore the Navy Seals is the highest branch of military might. Whoever goes into training knows what he/she is setting up for. If he is not up to it then he can train for a lower, less demanding rank. Navy Seals are therefore the least in number but have the greatest military might.

Navy Seal training is designed to identify people who are in the top 0.1% of physical and mental toughness. They push beyond a person's breaking point to see if they can still keep going. Unfortunately, in rare occasions, the instructors forget they are meant to be the safety net, to catch recruits when they go over the cliff. Hell week is nothing compared to the operational environment these soldiers will face. This is why the training has to be so hard. They accept they are an expendable part of the most ferocious toolset that the US military deploys.
