I’m currently sitting in a hotel overlooking Darling Harbour. That’s gotta be Sydney Harbour out that window in the video, isn’t it? Has to be… I grew up here before moving to Melbourne. Very cool!

Hi Greg, yes glorious Sydney Harbour, Double Bay out the window not Darling Harbour. Love that little creek in the cold wet cow-paddock the locals call Melbourne....

@@johnwhatmore163 We used to stay at the Intercontinental Hotel in DB. (Airline staff). That’s a great spot. Is there anywhere to see your track plan? Maybe a past video? Great layout and video though. 👍

New subscriber, very nice layout, like the sound affects.
@johnwhatmore1635 ай бұрын
Thanks MW, very happy you picked up on this - sound is so much of the trackside experience - this video took a month of hobby time in the edit suite to match real train sounds with n scale train movements on the layout - my first vid so not sure if it would be worth the effort but I was surprised at how much it made the layout come to life for my own enjoyment. As Boomer says "this hobby is inexhaustible!"

Wow...stunning layout... nice view out the window. Sure beats a basement view. Speaking of views did you see Railfan Dan's vid on the potash facility? What fantastic scenery. Talk about inspiration. Hope you post more of this wonderful layout you have created...glad to be your 50th subscriber.

Glad you enjoyed and thanks for subscribing. Don't think I've seen the potash episode, will check it out. Will post more, but not every week (work intrudes).

Wait yes, I know the one, just posted recently - near Moab UT. We happened to drive in to Moab on vacation in 2019 on a Friday from northwest, and followed the weekly train coming in. 20 old covered hoppers and a couple of weathered SD40-2's, it was just like an n scale layout. I had no idea there is a railroad, we went for the National Parks (which are unbelievable). If you ever go, the drive from Moab to the potash plant is along a canyon of the Colorado River, can't see much of the railroad but the canyon is spectacular, and it continues northeast of Moab too. We saw the potash ponds from the road at the top of Canyonlands NP, saw some cars at the bottom of the canyon and thought "hmmm looks interesting". The Shafer Trail is the cattle track that takes you down - the descent in our rented Dodge Suburban along the shear cliff edge and switchbacks with a million feet over the edge was terrifying.

You've crammed quite a lot of railroad into a spare bedroom! What are the dimensions? Do you have a layout track plan?
@johnwhatmore1638 күн бұрын
Room is 5 x 3 m, my track plan is in autocad from the initial build, I need to draw up a presentable plan, another item on the list…😮

Juste one question, what is the length to each train please ?
@johnwhatmore1639 ай бұрын
This train has 27 cars, most have 20 cars to fit in staging tracks with 3 locos.
@quentinquemet-bancel92689 ай бұрын
@@johnwhatmore163 ok thanks, so its approximatly a length of 145' or 150'' correct?
@johnwhatmore1639 ай бұрын
That's pretty close - I think it's around 135" for the 27 cars and 3 locos, or 3.4m.
@quentinquemet-bancel92689 ай бұрын
@@johnwhatmore163 its long. But it's perfect scale whit your beautyfull modelrailroad scenery. So thanks for all and have a nice day😉

Your layout is awesome. Your rock work and scenery really capture the feel of the Canyon. Are you local to the area? Great layout keep it up!

Thanks John, the layout is in Sydney, Aus. I've been to the Canyon a few times and KZbin railfan videos are a great source we couldn't dream of, like Railfan Dan. Lots of ground cover, trees, water, ballast etc still to come. Hope to post another vid in a few weeks.

The train for North Platte is an "intermodal,". Perhaps you misspelled it by accident.
