I am not Black, nor American, but I'm highly interested by the History of Black Americans. It seems to me that the sheer horror and cruelty of the chattel slave system had one notable consequence : the constant breaking up of the family unit, which is a grave offense to God and mankind. Thus, it appears to me that 2,5 centuries of such a system left a deep, negative mark in Black populations in the south after the abolition. It seems that this historical and anthropological element partly explains the insane rate of births out of the wedlock, single moms, baby mamas, unknown/absent fathers in the Black community to this day. I also reckon that the early Black elite of free person of color, especially those who were in the North, quickly understood how important it was to adopt firm conservative, family values to progress in society. Sadly, as we know, such elitist behaviors are now more rare, while the influence of the various modern Black subcultures was detrimental, most of the time, to the actual anthropological progress of this community as a whole. From the radicalised Black activist to the gangster rapper, these modern culture tends to justify ungodly/dysfunctional behaviors as some brilliant trait of said Black culture.
