The plating being applied must not be a thick enough layer, or its not adhering properly. If even a typical thickness is applied it should last years. When we plate items for customers we always put at least 4 times the thickness that the FTC requires to call an item "gold plated". We have items that are decades old that are still gold plated from when we first opened 25 years ago. If you'd like us to plate something for you please let us know. On chrome plated items, you remove the chrome using Chrome Stripping Solution. To strip chrome, you will need the Universal Plater Kit - "Chrome Edition", which has a switch to put it into Chrome Stripping mode. We have multiple videos showing the process of plating chrome items.

There are no advantages that the Universal Plater Kit has over the Chrome Edition. The Chrome Edition can do everything the standard Universal Plater Kit can do but can also strip chrome. If you have no interest or need to strip chrome, then there would be no need for the Chrome Edition.

Gold plating requires the bare metal. Any anodizing or coating needs to be removed and the surface needs to be bare platable material prior to beginning the work with our kits.

@@GUARD14N you can use paint stripper & the small metal bristle brushes sold in packs @ places like harbor freight n HD. BE SURE TO WEAR GLOVES & don’t get the paint stripper on ur skin. Use the metal brushes to scrub away any top coating.

Man is there anyway to do that to copper and brass? I have some electrical contacts on a machine that needs to be cleaned regularly from corrosion. Yes we can ship to Canada via USPS, UPS or FedEx. This is 99.97%(minimum) 24K gold, gold by nature is soft. If you purposely try to scratch it, you absolutely will scratch it off. Then again, even the hardest metals can quite easily be scratched.

The gold is permanently bonded to the substrate, however it absolutely can be removed through abrasive means. You could polish it off or destroy it with too much heat (such as a torch).

Yes, brass is quite easy to plate onto. When plating brass you Electroclean first, then use Surface Activator, then plate. Woods Nickel Strike is not required on brass.

No matter how much polishing i do i can still see minor surface scratches when looking up close or under a magnifying glass. Hello, Polishing out microscratches is very difficult and may be unachievable depending on the situation. Brush plating will not remove or "fill in" scratches. However, Bright Copper and/or Bright Nickel in a bath does provide a mirror finish with no scratches if the piece is well polished prior to plating. Great video. I just ordered some of your solutions and am having so much fun gold plating. It's a very easy and smooth process. I have a question I hope you can help me with. I have a piece I am working on that has a flaw in the metal (carbon steel), a 6 millimeter long scratch about 100 microns deep. Is it possible build up a layer of nickel, copper or gold that would be thick enough to cover up a flaw of this size? If this is possible what would be the best technique. Thank you! We are very happy to hear you are enjoying it. Even after years and years of doing it daily we still enjoy it every time we plate something also. The best way to remove or deal with scratches is to remove them prior to plating. Attempting to "cover up" or fill in scratches does not work too well. One of the most effective ways we have found is to use a hand dremel with polishing wheel attachments on the end and some red rouge. Attempting to fill a scratch, especially this deep is not very feasible with electroplating. Plating Nickel extremely thick can help a little to fill, but it's best to deal with it prior to plating if possible. Let us know if we can be of further help.

If you have aluminum items that need to be gold plated, either send them to a professional plating company like us for gold plating, OR send them in to be nickel plated by a professional company and then you can gold plate the nickel with our kits.

Glass cannot be plated onto without first coating the item with a "conductive electroplating ink/paint". Then, typically the item needs to be "electroformed" with copper, basically this means plating it with copper for about 10-12 hours. Then it can go through the process of plating with our equipment.

Hello, we're glad you asked because the answer is no. Unfortunately, aluminum wheels cannot be done this way or with any of our kits. Aluminum is extremely difficult to plate and the aluminum wheels would need to be sent to a professional plating shop to be dip plated in nickel prior to being able to plate them.
