Bought one for my son for Christmas last year. He has really fell in love with pulling it out and whittling every time we stop to sit around a little. He's gotten pretty good.

Man, thanks for this video. I've thought about getting that carving jack for probably 3-4 years, lol.

I just bought one of these from Amazon. The price is up to $26 US as of February 2023. If mine had come this sharp out of the box I would have been very satisfied. Unfortunately, either the quality has gone down, or I got a defective knife. All the blades were unusably dull, except the strait chisel. There was also uneven grinds on every blade. They would take a very long time to sharpen and hone to the quality seen in this video. I’m returning mine for a replacement. I’m really hoping the next one they send is more like this one.

That stinks, I've since switched to flexcut Jack's, they are outrageously better than this one I'm afraid

@@bushcraftkelso2013 I’ve heard that! The second one I got was a lot closer to the quality shown in your video. I’m happy with it. I would definitely switch to Flexcut if they were more in my price range. I just can’t afford to drop $120 or more on a knife right now. Maybe someday.

@@andrewlee5715 Yeah, that price tag on the Flex cut is steep. But as a friend of mine says "Buy the best and you only cry once".

Maybe it's just me but It sounds like cheaper steel while you're carving. I think the flexcut carving jack is just a better quality edge and build. I was gifted the flexcut version for my birthday in January and I absolutely love it. I'm a knife collector and I'm obsessed with nice blades and sets. The flexcut is by far the best pocket jack I've used. I even prefer the whittling blade on it over the favorite flexcut detailing blade. It's a really nice product....check it out before you decide to purchase the old timer!

They both use the same steel it is just a little thicker on the flex cut
Really glade you did this video. I thought this would be a great bushcraft do all tool. You know they make a nail nick tool saw it at smokey mountain knife works. That is the reason I stopped carrying old time slip joins they hurt to open. I also lose them because of no pocket clip an no-way to stop them from falling out your pocket sitting or laying. Being a mechanic i lost many knives looking under cars an trucks. I think this would be perfect in a pack something I would have loved in the army or back in boy scouts. Good job on the spoon I think you are being hard on yourself it was a really good job. ( I've seen some carved spoons that you had to ask what it was. Lol) Have a merry Christmas

The little carving blade does drill if you practice. I use the groves until I can lift the end of the chisel or long gouge. I figure it will dull eventually so try to keep mine sharp.
