MEUs have Force Recon on them, but what you saw here was the infantry element of the MEU. It's a just a Battalion of regular grunts. You don't have to be a grunt or recon to get on a MEU. In my MOS (0627 / SAT Comm) we have 4 boat spaces per MEU, so we send up to 4 SAT Comm guys to each MEU. When I say boat space I mean that's the room on the ship for us. Just in case you didn't know, the MEU is the ground element of an amphibious task force. You have to request to be on a MEU.

please, not I am a civie and will be for 2 more years. I was just wondering, what exactly is a Marine Expeditionary Unit? do they resieve specialized training, are the like force Recon? how do I get into MEU? oh, and whats the scuttlebutt on when the new EFV is being fielded? haha, I cant wait to join the marines! scuttlebutt is so fun to say!

Each MEU is an expeditionary quick reaction force, deployed and ready for immediate response to any crisis.
