Lucy, thank you for such a fantastic quiz. However, I definitely wouldn't say in the US: -If you *should happen to*... is kind of overkill. - You *might* have told me you were gonna be late. → You should have told me... - Would you be so kind as to...? No way, sounds weird in American English today, we're not THAT polite. 😂 You're an awesome teacher. Thanks for every single lesson you've provided for us.

Haha - I’m American too, and I do use those phrases sometimes! But I can be fairly old fashioned in my speech.

www.youtube.com/@DonnieChoi , Does anybody know, whether it’s correct and possible to use “will” combined with “if”, e.g. if you will take a seat, we’ll ..?? ? Isn’t that prohibited ?!?!
@DonnieChoi9 күн бұрын
@@viktorkasyanenko8745 That's correct. If +will/would is used to imply willingness or to refer to later results. e.g. If you will come this way, I'll show you around the facility. If it will make you happy, I will invite him to the party. If she would stop complaining, she will have more friends.

I think that was the case for me as well. I am used to US format than the UK format

As a native English speaker, this definitely brings to my attention how abysmal my cognitive understanding of grammar is. Intuitively, I get it right most of the time, but I had to think about a lot of these answers.
@mindbender641710 күн бұрын
This is why foreign learners are more educated and proficient in English grammar because at first they begin learning grammar and pronunciation and thereafter the vocabulary, writing and reading. The easiest part is informal English for em to learn. I speak about other European countries and Ukrainians and Russians who have the most difficult grammar, however, all Asiatic speakers face a lot of challenges while studying English for their absolutely different writing and pronunciation and a lack of grammar. For example, Chinese and Japanese have sign writing (hieroglyphs) and get stuck with grammar because they cannot get what it is for. Moreover, in Chinese there is no R sound, in Japan - L sound.
@HluteinotHluteii8 күн бұрын
@@mindbender6417 You're wrong. Not 'all' Asiatic speakers can't not pronounce L or R. There are many Asian countries which have the equivalent for L and R in their alphabets.
@mindbender64178 күн бұрын
@@HluteinotHluteii Who said that ALL Asiatic speakers cannot pronounce L and R except of you? Read my post once more, please, and don’t just skim it.
