On this day in 2017, the world witnessed the beginning of one of the most brutal genocides in modern history. Over 700,000 Rohingya were forcibly displaced from their homes in Myanmar, fleeing from systematic violence, persecution, and atrocities committed by the Myanmar military. Entire villages were razed, families were torn apart, and countless lives were lost. Those who survived the onslaught found themselves stranded in overcrowded refugee camps, where they continue to live in dire conditions, stripped of their basic human rights and dignity. As a member of the global community, I feel compelled to raise my voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. The Rohingya people have suffered for far too long, and their plight must not be forgotten. We must remember the horrors they have faced and work together to ensure that justice is served, and that such atrocities are never repeated. I call upon the international community to take decisive action. It is not enough to remember; we must act. The perpetrators of this genocide must be held accountable for their crimes, and the Rohingya people must be given the right to return to their homeland with safety, dignity, and full citizenship. Humanitarian aid must continue to reach those in need, and we must support the efforts of organizations working tirelessly to provide relief and advocate for the rights of the Rohingya. This Remembrance Day is not only a time for mourning but also a time for solidarity. I urge you to stand with the Rohingya people, to amplify their voices, and to work towards a future where justice prevails and human rights are upheld for all. Let us honor the memory of those who have perished by committing ourselves to the pursuit of justice and peace.
