With two piece rods I dip the male end of the rod in candle wax. It helps to keepi the rod from coming apart.

Good video and info Thanks! I get the part about not keeping the expensive equipment in the car thing completely. That's why I always have a $15 Wal-Mart special spinning rod with my 1980's Mitchell 300 in the car. If the dogs step on the rod and.break it, who cares? And the reel is bullet proof so no worries! Tight lines!

You should have packed an xf50 with you in case you got tired of untangling the steed lol. I just got a cheap new rod myself. Ordered a south bend 2 piece 5'0 UL spincast combo , which arrived today. Just really got it for the rod.Tonight I threw an xf50 on it, and tested it for like 40 min before sundown. I ended catching a nice small bass on it, throwing a tiny jig spinner + 1/32 oz jig and 2" powerbait curl tail grub. That rod handled the fish fine, it's not as whippy and limber as I originally thought it was going to be. It's rated at UL 1/16 oz -1/4 oz but to me it feels more of a Light or Medium Light. Doesn't come with a hook hanger either. Still works great for BFS, it's local, and cheap. The hook hanger problem can easily be solved with a little bit of wire,thread,and good old UV resin. Very soon I am going to pull the trigger on the Scorpion BFS XG, and gonna throw that on this south bend rod.

Im trying not to give up on that Haibo Steed spool. I have a magnet kit ill be testing out this weekend on it. I caught some bass yesterday on the ultimate bfs combo using a bare trout magnet lol. next step.. trout!

Nice vid and looks like a great deal. I have many bass rods that are all 1 piece except 1, and that was a St Croix "dock skipper" 5' 6" spinning rod 2-piece. It's top section kept coming loose so because it was only 5'6", I just put a light film of epoxy and made it a 1-piece. I've since done that to two other 2-piece trout rods. One pro about doing this is that once it's set in and aligned, that's it, you never have to worry about it coming loose or twisting and getting the guides misaligned. Only con I can think of is if you believe you want to keep it 2 piece so you can "pack it in" to your favorite stream or pond. But most guys rig up and carry their rods in anyway, esp fly fishers. Anyways, just thought I'd offer up my solution to loose 2 piece rods... nice vid and thanx for sharing.

The Reel Test, Love the Shimano Trout 1 rod, a thing of beauty. I use Cabela’s deluxe rod tubes for all of my rods. I also use home made rod socks,old towels cut to size, I wrap one section of the rod so they do not bang together and break inside the tube. If I have 12 rods 10 are 2 piece rods. They all live in rod tubes until I am at the water ready to rig up. The rod tubes are on sale for $17, available in 30,44,53,56” lengths. Some of my spinning rods will fit in them. I have a stash of their old style PVC rod tubes for the ones that do not fit the new type tube. Fishing a quality rod with a decent reel is a joy compared to an inexpensive (poorly made) rod. Price is not always a determinate of quality and performance.

I have a couple of rod tubes but I want a combo thats already rigged up and ready to go in my car, so I can roll up to a spot and just connect the 2 rod pieces and start fishing :)

This cheap rod makes me want to give BFS an actual shot, but hard to take that leap away from my UL spinning gear. Looks like a fun time, but asking for a headache for a less than great BC user such as myself haha

Get a stick of dubbing wax as used in fly tying, smear a bit on the male joint, the stiction usually stops the top section casting off.

How do you like it compare with Shakespeare Micro 5.6 feet light casting rod? From the video, I assume the taper on this rod is stiffer, which I like about it. However, Shakespeare might be more durable. Any suggestions on which one I should go with?

Quality pack rods and trout rods come with rod tubes made for the rod size. After market, rod tubes are available at most tackle stores. Super thin rod blank tips break easily no matter the level of price point. You can make rod tubes from fluorescent light safety tubes found at any store selling fluorescent light tubes. When you buy any top brand rod at least half the price is in paying for the name.

Love your channel and great video as always. But thought I should put my input in regards to the term “bait finesse”. I think the rods you’re referring to are simply ultra light bait casting rods and not bait finesse. I believe bait finesse rods are more in the genre of bass fishing, referred to rods that can handle big fish with finesse applications (light line and lure).

Hey, I've been watching for a while now quick question the Shimano casitas does not have corrosion resistant bearings but their website says it will work in saltwater so my question is do u think it will be fine even though it doesn't have corrosion resistant bearings?

I had one. The handle flexes and the cork wasn't glued on properly. It broke on the first cast. I personally don't recommend it.

dude just get a fly rod tube for that shimano which if a rod tube can protect a 4 piece 3 weight fly rod from breaking as it falls down a cliff i would think it would sure as hell protect your fancy shimano trout one
