Crowd strike IT outage was nothing! Think massive storm takes out all power on a Xmas eve, your working in a large supermarket and your cash drawer is the only one you can open, hundreds of shoppers who would literally burnt the place to the ground before leaving their Xmas groceries after them, generator gone after two hours so using torches, runners getting prices from sel's cos with barcodes obviously no price labels on anything, pen and paper calculations of receipts that would have been longer than my arm,(calculator locked in cash office we couldn't access) the whole thing was a total nightmare, only thing saved us was we still had access to the old manual visa machine, can you imagine saying cash only on a Xmas eve when even the atm had gone down? Whole thing still gives nightmares!

I don't know about other stores, but the one I go to has only self checkout. There are no provisions for handicapped customers or 10 items or less line. The line actually winds around the aisles and, at times, takes more than an hour frozen to get to the front of the line. Also, if you have frozen items, you should bring an insulated bag to keep these items in while in line. For me, it is not a good experience. My options to go to a different store area. limited because there is only one other supermarket in my area.

I'd like to point out that 1) Apple have never been innovators, they do what others already have, and 2) They ALWAYS do only minor updates and market them as 'game changing' What they are good at is marketing. They take ideas other companies have and market them as their own. They also buy some componentsfrom competitors, because their competitors are already doing it better.

The Seine should never have been used for open-water swimming in the first place. The convenience is accessibility is nice, sure, but that should NOT trump safety. Better to have found a safe venue instead of an accessable one. The opening ceremony on the Seine was fine, though. It was a great idea on paper, but in practice, it was a one-time deal that shouldn't be replicated again.

Listening to this list of 2024 fails I realize how checked out I really am. Most of them I didn’t know about in anyway. The fact that the alleged rapist Mike Tyson was involved in another boxing match was a complete surprise to me. I was unaware that Katy Perry had fallen out of favor, but given that I’ve never heard one of her songs it shouldn’t surprise anyone that I was unaware of her fall from grace and I’m a professional musician. I’ve never heard a Taylor Swift song either. Well, maybe I am just too detached anymore. I started disconnecting from popular culture probably in the 80s when country music just went to shit. The charts were dominated by the cowboy hat of the week or the female derrière of the week. There were some bright spots. Tonya Tucker still was showing emotion in her songs. But there were a far too many Travis Tritts and too many songs like achy Breaky heart. In other music genres, there was the rise of Yanni and Kenny G. I haven’t been enticed by any movie trailers I’ve seen in years. Appropriately the last movie I watched was Don’t Look Up. The educational level of many is frightening. People don’t know how many states there are in this country and can’t name the capital city of the country. It’s not surprising. They don’t know the name of the president or the vice president. This is how we ended up with Donald Trump. Well, I’m glad I’m old because it means maybe I’ll be dead before everything implodes in the United States. Also, I made certain that I had no children. I guess my rent is finished. The video triggered something inside of me though and I had to let it out. I’m sorry.

I'm in America and I've seen good and bad systems. I think Walmart implemented a very poor system, but some stores like Costco and even Home Depot have decent to good systems. Our Sam's Club (sister store to Walmart) even let's you use their app to scan and check out, which works amazingly well. I wouldn't be surpassed if Walmart chose the lowest bidder.

I used to work as someone who would oversee self checkouts and sone systems are better than others. Target, for example, has a system that's very easy to trick, but stop and shop has a tougher system that catches people trying to do shady things.

@@hippiemama52Where the heck are you that there’s never a line?! I’ve never once not had to stand in a long line for self check out! I like it sometimes. But when I have a few weeks worth of groceries, I have no desire to do all that myself. I don’t work there!! The cashier can do it, while I watch. First, self check out should be for 20 items or less! It’s rude as hell to hold up self check out for your months worth of groceries when most of the line are people getting a handful of things, and are usually trying to get in and out! Second, there’s never any room when you have that much stuff. And that damn machine will always find a reason to say “help is on the way” holding me up. Third, I use it when I have a few things, but again, when I have a lot, I would much rather go through a regular line. I’m not employed there! Also, it’s kind of weird to say you trust yourself more than a trained cashier. What do you think they’re going to do? It’s literally picking something up and running it over red lights. That’s it! 🙄
