I’m looking forward to the changes you speak of. I can’t wait. I have an issue now where there are no home churches where I am and I’m know I’m not qualified to start one. All the churches around me are larger seeker churches. I feel like I’m in a desert.

@@jawjuh1005 I feel your heart for it's been my feeling as well for the past 10 years. But let's remind each other of this: Jesus said: "I will build my church". It's not you or me, it's the Holy Spirit. What we - especially we who have the yearning for these changes, but not feeling qualified to start one - is first, ask God to send our area a planter for the church, and be willing to have Him empower and inspire us to be that planter. Keeping in mind it's His Church.

Thankyou Brother Matt.....Your evaluations and observations are bang on. We have divorced ourselves from what Jesus had intended....big corporate constructs with myriads of divisive understanding that divides and scatters the...ONE.. true faith into many clusters of churches....one competing over the other etc etc. And your absolutely correct about your critique of Constantine. The way the churches have set up there corporate icons has created vast volumes of people with little knowledge of scripture but saturated with dogmas, traditions.

Thanks Matt, You have described what we are also seeing in Australia. Covid tossed us out of buildings and into small gatherings for several months. The return to the 'old normal' was such a backward step, we hungered for the intimacy and connection we experienced in House Fellowship. We have returned to home fellowships, being underground took so much burden of meaningless paper shuffling away. We are now being Church. Street Corner Christianity is disappearing fast down under, but the underground Church is growing for all the reasons you mentioned.

Wow! Matt, you’ve nailed it with this segment. Every thing you’ve mentioned is a return to the Biblical model that we find described within the pages of the New Testament when the Church was functioning under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. What you’ve contrasted is the difference between an institutionalized religious organization and organic ecclesia. I’m hoping to play a part in this upcoming transformation back to the forgotten ways. By the way, that’s the title of a book authored by Alan Hirsch, that deals with this very subject. 👍

This is what I want- communal and real prayer. Yes, churches are shrinking, but the big non-denominational churches are big because some people like to get their’faith’ bit done and be on their way. Also, folks like to have a sense of belonging to, being associated with, something big, bright and sexy ; maybe that’s not the faith, but…

@@revolutionofordinaries the principles set forth in his books are worth reading. Some other books I was reading at that time were Watchman Nee, George Müller, The Steps of Humility and Pride Book by Bernard of Clairvaux, plus many others. Prayer is what kept us flying the Word kept us grounded and love made us grow. I do see a resurgence in home churches. Actually we at the beginning stages of building a prayer and healing center and we so happen are beginning in our home. Faith, food and fellowship anybody.

I agree with this list. Church for many people has become a passive entertainment experience but Jesus called us into an active lifestyle of following him. I've talked to a number of people in the last few years who have stopped attending a church, not because they quit believing but because they craved something deeper than most churches offer. I think there are many others who feel that but don't know what to do. What they want is discipleship. Unfortunately, that has so rarely been taught in the past several decades that they don't understand what that means. I think these shifts you listed will come in the next few years, possibly because persecution will force us to make them.

A really great list, including some quite controversial points! My son’s family left their imploding CoC congregation during Covid and joined a Syrian orthodox congregation nearby (which completely ignored the state Covid restrictions that destroyed the CoC group.) I have been intensely studying Orthodox thought.. there are many more differences from Catholicism than we have thought. It is amazing how many of your projections are just taken for granted in the Syrian orthodox community (though certainly not all.) 2/3 of the congregations are converts from Protestant and catholic churches. My teen granddaughter just placed second in an intense 2.5 hour oral competition on Paul’s Roman letter. When the CoC grandparents visit, we are embraced and treated like visiting royalty. They recognize CoC immersion as valid.

The awesome motivational value of many churches has worn thin. Great coffee, great music, great motivational speeches have all been replaced by 1 to 2 minute Tik Tok videos. The trend started when young people would buy a pair of socks as long as the company gave a pair to homeless; buy shoes as long as a free pair went to children. They want more than good music and a good message - they want to impact the community (the world). My thought on the decline is : 1/3 struggle to find the "being the church" instead of "going to church". 1/3 have put their faith in technology to save this world. And only 1/3 have found that "sacrificial no name disciple making church"

Here's a thought : Of all the reasons that churches are losing members, no one has suggested the disrespect that churches have shown to women - for centuries. Treating women as tho they are not as intelligent as men, marginalizing their contributions to the church, and the abuse of women and children by clergy. Women are fed up with the attitude of male dominance in the church. Plenty of men can't be trusted to be leaders of their households, much less leaders of the faith.

Can you please explain further 'a shift from donations to marketplace' I'm not understanding what you mean by marketplace where donations (giving) are concerned
@revolutionofordinaries8 ай бұрын
Ministers who now rely on donations will have to get other jobs once the donations are no longer enough to support all the staff. And that will put the ministers in the marketplace and give them new connections and skills that they didn't have before. That will further the spread of the gospel rather than keep them insulated in the church walls.

All these changes mentioned are all incidental to circumstance and not due to biblical reasons. There are many whom have left the church system because what they see and experience is not aligned to scripture, then there are those you mention that leave the church system for the many reasons you stated. Two separate groups. If this bn is the case, then home churches will just become another church system. I’ve already seen people promoting classes and training in how to develop a home church. If this is the case, each denomination will provide their individual system based on their denomination. I would feel much better if the church system was decreasing because people realized it’s not aligned to scriptures. Under the circumstances you stated, it gives me no real hope for Chang. It’s just evolving into another type of system

There will be a million people doing it a million ways - it isn't really a question of whether or not things systematize a bit...the bigger question is, are we surrendering to King Jesus in how we are going about it or are we just trying to brand it again?
