This comment section is a negative mess. Let me break this down for you. Homegirl has really nicely compiled a list of things that work for her, and she thinks will work for other people as well. She is not try to FORCE you to do these things. If something works for you, do it. If something doesn’t, don’t do it. These are SUGGESTIONS

Do you know about steel containers? I bought one so I can prepare meals for flights so I don't have to eat the food that they offer (typically wrapped in some kind of plastic with plastic utensils). I have travel sized metal cutlery too so hmm idk how I would bring that on the plane... Maybe leave the fork and knife in the checked bag?

Honey Bunny they did for me but the cashier told me when she saw the bag. You might want to mention it to the cashier next time. The lady scanned a barcode and it took the 10¢ off so I think it’s a universal policy for Target.

@@littlehooch94 I'm not sure it's universal. Because cities like Boulder exist where you get charged for the plastic bags you use. And I feel like that would complicate things. So I feel like this is probably a city by city thing or state to state on how the policy is. But it might be a company-wide policy.

My friends and family makes fun of me for being vegan, all the time xD They tell me to just go eat the grass in the garden hehe. But over time, they got used to the thought and even started thinking about the environment and what the food in the store comes from and what it contains (4 years after I began this journey lol, but hey, better late than never). Now they actually enjoy eating vegan food, but I think they are far from being environmentally friendly haha. So, just try your best to live in a sustainable way and maybe they will get that you're serious about it and if you do lots of research and inform them of new better ways to live and what negative effects their current lifestyle has on the environment, they might put a thought to it. Just don't force them, or it will have the opposite effect x.x Sorry for this long comment xD I'm in a writing mood today lol

I would like to add, try to buy locally AND seasonally! It saves you money, and saves energy from your produce traveling from other countries vs in your town and because growing food out of season requires a lot more energy. I have a list I printed out of florida’s natural grown produce and their seasons and I just keep it on my fridge so I know what to look for. I haven’t started going to the farmer’s market yet, but it supports local farmers and businesses while probably being cheaper than going to the grocery store.

According to my Earth Science Prof, they're not the best at filtering out the serious contaminants. They just filter out the stuff that makes it taste bad. There are countertop filtration systems that filter more contaminants, or you can take bottles to the grocery store and fill them from the filtered water dispensers. Many stores have them out front, Whole Foods and some other stores have them inside.

I love the J.R. Liggetts shampoo bars. They come in a paper wrapping that can be recycled and I have a local shop near me that sells them so I don't have to order them. I have not yet found a place that ships them in a low waste way, but maybe you can find something! Here's the link to their website: jrliggett.com/bar-shampoo.html?SID=23kjr76e58vg4381mg0j4uc6m2 I also use a conditioner bar from Ulta that comes on a recyclable paper box. The ingredients, unfortunately aren't super fantastic, but they are definitely better than some that I've seen. It's a good starting place. And again, the Ulta near me sells them so I don't have to deal with shipping waste. The bar is a little bit pricier than what I would really like, but it's supposed to last for the life of 3 bottles of conditioner so hopefully the price will even out. :) Here's the link for that one: www.ulta.com/bar-none-hydrating-conditioner-bar?productId=xlsImpprod18611003

It's a good thing your not near a LUSH i've been told by so many people how horrible and drying they are because of the use of SLS in them. I've been doing a lot of research on what ones are good. Top recommendation from people about this brand, vegan-friendly; ethiqueworld.com/collections/hair Another highly recommended vegan-friendly one is; solibar.co/ Both these are completely natural and have no SLS (which dry out and damage your hair) and should be available online in the U.S. but you can probably find local businesses in the U.S if you don't like the impact shipping can have. I have also heard an apple cider vinger rinse afterwards works well with these bars.

I like to write simple reminders on a little whiteboard. It’s waste free and gives me the satisfaction of regularly erasing everything. For complex or long-term to-do lists, I find an electronic format easiest to keep organised so I put it all on one long word doc. I’m in favour of reusing scraps of paper but I find that my life is approaching paper free. I rarely even get mail because so many things - including bills and banking - are electronic by default. (It helps that the Australian postal system isn’t allowed to deliver junk mail if you put a sticker on your box).

So the solution is to teach other people to do it like normal thing. I've never thinking about to use plastic fork or knife, or don't use old t-shirts to clean with. When did it happen? Using plastic things to save our time? I was always thinking about what to do in my life, and now I know. Earth is our future and other things are not that important (yea family of course :))

Natural Vegan is a company that has zero/low waste carbon-neutral products! I just got their shampoo bar for travel but, have not tried it yet. Plaine Products is a company that has liquid shampoo/conditioner/lotion/etc. in aluminum bottles that you send back when you get a refill and they reuse them. They cover shipping, you just reuse the box your new bottles came in and save the pumps so you only need/use one set of pumps. Both awesome conscious companies to check out when you run out of what you have!!

@Ana Veronika From a former cashier perpective, putting a whole bunch of different stuff in the same bag is annoying and time consuming for the cashier (and probably the customers in line behind them). Each fruit or veggie has to be weighed seperately. Even if you have two types of apples with different numbers on them or if two things you put in the same bag are the same price. I've seen customers put a whole bunch of stuff in the same bag and then I have no other choice but to tear the whole bag open (and therefore I still have to use another bag or more bags) because it all can't be weighed at the same time. Honestly with customers handling it (whose hands have been only God knows where), the cashier handling it (who have also been handling money and other things that are gross like raw meat packages, gross/unclean reusable bags, dusty stuff), baggers handling it, it rolling on a not so clean conveyor belt, putting it in a bag is a good idea to reduce your germ exposure. There are reuseable produce bags which are better for the environment though.

For low waste toothpaste, there are some brands that creat toothpaste in the form of pills. They put them in glass jars so totally reusable! You just pop the toothpaste in the shape of a pill and wet your toothbrush and it works like regular ones! :)

A good option for a lower waste toothpaste are the powdered ones. You can find them online and some come in glass containers, and in my opinion work even better than the normal tube ones in terms of whitening and stuff. If u think about it all toothpaste really is is just a paste aka some powder mixed with water lol. Plus they last FOREVER so it's also a great way to save money.

For the home made toothpaste you can add in peppermint or spearmint essential oil and a small pinch of charcoal. I have found it adds to the overall toothpaste, keeps my breathe fresh and my teeth white. If you whip the coconut oil with a fork, before putting the ingredients in it comes out in the perfect soft but solid consistency. You would just need to keep it stored generally in room temperature. Great video, my husband Richard and I, own Simple By Lacey. We use reclaimed wood to create one of a kind art. We make rustic and minimalistic home decor, wedding decor, furniture, pet furniture, and tiny homes. We support and appreciate anybody striving to help the Earth and become more plastic free. For every product sold we also have a tree planted. We started our plastic free journey 8 years ago by slowly saving up our food jars and we stopped drinking out of plastic. This year we have started our compost and have a herb garden. We converted our deodorant, toothpaste, face and body scrub, and beard/hair oil to homemade products that we store in glass and top with a cork. It has been an amazing journey towards a sustainable life and zero waste living. Thank you for inspiring others to take their own journey and heal the world ✌🏻💕🌲

I'm puzzled by your comment. Where are you getting your data - 'most people don't use (their Kindle/ebook) much'? This idea is totally contrary to my experience.Whilst I was working outside of the home, I used my Kindle about 2.5 hours a day. Now there's no commute, it's down to 1.5 hours, but that's each and every day. Most people I know who use Kindles/ebooks now use their machine far more than they used paper books when paper books were the only option. I guess what I'm saying is the way one person uses an item can be vastly different than another.

@@brittanysavoie7608, if you love books, that's great. Use books. My problem with public libraries is I have not been able to get the books I want since I was about 12-14. My tastes in reading don't seem to correspond with the rest of the library users, and naturally (and rightly) they try to meet the needs of most of their patrons. Either way both are technically equal, while the synthetic isn’t eco friendly, agriculture (i.e. cotton, apples, avocados...) is also a major chunk of carbon emissions! There is also major water waste in both cases too. So even though natural is technically better, consumer tendencies towards one use products like... cotton balls encourage this sort of system I think. Correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while since I’ve looked into this. I’m just basing this as an artist who makes her own stuff (clothes included). That said, it’s really about being smart about what you buy and along with the material. Bamboo is durable, strong, long lasting, and naturally antibiotic. Silk on the other hand is expensive for a completely natural product (it takes thousands of silk worms the size of a thumb to even make a handkerchief) hope this info helps!

For the grocery list on your phone, for the moment I'm still using paper because : ten years ago when I was in high school and then in college, every time we had a test, they were giving us the "official test papers" and so all the paper I didn't use during the test I would take it back home and cut it in little pieces to use for grocery list. And believe me or not I'm still using them!!! I still have a bunch! Or when you print something wrong, dont throw it away, you can still use it!! 😬😬😬

I LOVE this list of recommendations, as they are primarily use what you have! 👏 which is what the low/zero waste movement SHOuLD be instead of encouraging more consumption to have fancy "zw" items. Thank youuuuuu. I use a shampoo bar and do an ACV rinse for conditioner. I have fine hair that gets oily and it works well for me. I also use a dry shampoo of arrowroot flour. I by the shampoo bar on etsy from a seller who ships with zero plastic which is awesome.

When bringing your own silverware, wrap it in a cloth napkin. That eliminates plastic utensils AND paper napkins. Carry your silverware in a tote bag so you always have it with you.

- coconut oil as makeup remover, wash off with a warm cloth - olive oil as moisturizer - switched all spray cleaning products to dr bronners liquid diluted - mix dr bronners and baking soda for cream cleanser for abrasion clean - Small towel to dry hands instead of paper towels And controversially, you can purchase bags which extend life of vege/ fruit called fresh and crisp. I’m unsure exactly what they are made out of it but they are reusable for a long period of time and extend life of fruit/ veg for weeks.. I’ve had coriander (cilantro) for 4 weeks..

Coconut oil is worse than palm oil, if everyone would use it. There are so many skinfriendly regional oil‘s. Try these!

It’s fine if you use a WARM cloth, using a cold one will cause it to be comedogenic. But if it doesn’t work for you....don’t do it :)

@@diezuckerbackerin5112 I was v dissappointed to find out that dr bronners castille soap has palm oil. they say its sustainable and all that I read the paper they published but tbh I really would rather not have any kind of palm oil in there. anyone know of castille soap with no palm oil-palm oil derivatives?

if you are a young teenager or are someone who hasn’t had intercorse, the lena cup is the easiest to apply. normally, i don’t even use tampons because i hate the feeling but the lena cup is so easy, so comfortable.

Great video!! I love it!! Usually zero waste people tell you to throw away all your plastic and re buy everything in bamboo, which I find really silly because if you already have them it’s better to use them!! Liked your tips a lot thanks!! 👌🏼

You can use silk thread to floss. I even tried cotton thread and it works just fine.

Ms Keisha Silk isn’t vegan so I personally wouldn’t use it but it’s good to know cotton works well :)

This year I started my journey to slowly change my habits out for more sustainable products. The brand of shampoo bars I use is ethique which I found to be amazing and even better that they are made where I live. If they ship to you they offer sample packs and have a range of options for body and hair care. I have seen so many videos that don't talk about the transition to low waste and your video was a better video by saying it takes time, as so many others don't explain it as a journey. Thank you
