I am late to the party Sven, but great subject again. Awesome games, Vroom, Crazy Cars 3, Formula one... and many more. But you know....No Second Prize gets way too little love. That game was a stunner!

Buggy Boy was awesome as it was a very early ST game that turned out great!

I 100% agree.

Fun fact: Vroom works well on Mega STe @ 16 MHz with cache enabled. And when controlled by a mouse, it reminds a sim (you need to be gentle with direction changes). Another fun fact is that if you use trackball instead a mouse (mine was modified from this huge black one for 8-bit Ataris), both Vroom and NSP become a real fun. The list lacks Team Suzuki (similar to NSP, but slower), and Toyota Celica GT Rally (that was a pretty decent one).

F1gp, Vroom, Rvf and Lotus were the best in my opinion .... This video brings back lots of memories .

Except for the low ranking turbo cup and enduro racer, I agree pretty much with this list. Esp the start. Nice video 👍🏻

Thanks. Yes the first 3-4 games have been so terrible, I had to show them :D

Vroom and Lotus were my go to games back in the day, never had NSP but as a wanna be demo coder back then i look at it now and think just how amazing that vector work was, nevermind making a game with it too, just genius programming👌🏼

I do miss Toyota Celica Rally in there. It was flawed and often quite low in framerate, but it felt more grounded and more proper 3d than most of them.

Vroom #1 and rightly so. Could argue super sprint was missing at #2 though.

Continental Circus is very faithful to the arcade; it makes my top 3 ST racing game with Vroom and Lotus
@IntoTheVerticalBlank2 жыл бұрын
Nice work, Sven! A lot of good, some great, and some crap in this one =) Continental Circus on is where the game really start to improve. One really weird thing I noticed is that the trees in Super Monaco GP seem to move away from the player. its just an illusion. The last 5 or 6 are just amazing achievements on the ST/E
@svendaennart2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I agree, Continental Circus is the first game which is not that terrible looking and kinda playable, too. But I remember that I liked to play Supercycle back in the days as well. I just don´t remember if it was on the ST or maybe C64 :D

@@svendaennart I had super cycle as one of my first ST games and loved it.

I’m agree with you, more or less, my favourites are Vroom (or its F1 version), Lotus Esprit, and also Crazy Cars 3 and Super Hang on. Nice video! Will you consider to make another one with racing overhead games for ST? (Supercars, Nitro, Jupiter’s Materdrive, Super Sprint, Super Off Road…)
@lalissesebastien18919 ай бұрын
I like Super Cycle, very smooth in spite of beeing an early game for the Atari ST. Not too demanding for the machine but good and playable to me !!! A lot of racing games were too hard to make fot the ST, and not playable because of it.

The ST didn't really have many great racing games, but with Vroom, Stunt Car and No Second Prize it was a case of quality over quantity.

What's STE version?. That version of Outrun looks much better than the version usually seen on the ST.
@svendaennart2 жыл бұрын
Outrun and Lotus Esprit are modified versions for the Atari STE, which was a bit faster, had a bigger color palette, stereo sound and Blitter.

I tried a few times to record a video of this game, but I miserably failed :) Controlling the car was so terrible, and the game so slow that I skipped it after a few attempts.

@@svendaennart Il faut y jouer à la souris mais sur un vrai ST ou sous émulation ralentir la souris, au Joystick c'est impossible...

@@svendaennart I liked Hard Driving because it was one of the early experiences I had with a full 3D environment, along with Flight Simulator 2. As expected, it was slow, but it was playable with the mouse (since it was full 3D the car didn't stay parallel to the road, so you needed analog controls like a mouse to be able to make micro adjustments).
