Everyone Missed These Key Moments In Vikings
Subscribe to our channel: bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Screenrant
If you thought the Game of Thrones coffee cup was bad -- well, we’ve gone deep into TV’s Vikings to reveal modern day products, historical goofs, and a whole lot of details that were pretty easy to miss. Vikings clearly isn’t the first show to dive deep into the history of Europe and different countries like Italy. So why waste huge budgets on building sets, when a bunch of them are already built for you?!
That’s exactly the case for the season 5 episode entitled, “The Plan”. If all the shots in Sicily looked familiar, then you may be a big fan of Orlando Bloom! The same sets were featured in the final siege battle for the 2005 film “Kingdom of Heaven”. Clearly, the production behind the impressive Vikings can get really complicated. There are dozens of extras, a lot of plotlines to follow, and mistakes are bound to happen. Speaking of “bound”, the season one episode “Dispossessed” features one of these mistakes and it all has to do with a priest who has his hands bound together. Vikings has become an iconic title. When you’re talking TV, it’s easy to bring up the series and has become instantly recognizable. The funny part is that Vikings wasn’t originally going to be the name of the show at all.
As we gear up for the sixth and final season of The History Channel’s Vikings, why not take a look back on all five of the other seasons to reflect and dive deep into the stories -- including a fun connection to Breaking Bad!
With so many characters and battles, there’s a whole lot to miss, but no worries. We’ve got you covered.

@roderickclerk5904
@roderickclerk5904 2 жыл бұрын
@@pengy4792 true. But however if you look at some the characters in Vikings and V:Valhalla some of the costumes are “decently” accurate and look very well made. For instance the (non combative) outfits that King Finehair and Horik wore were really good looking. Then you had Ragnar, a supposed rich warlord wearing rags. Same thing for V:Valhalla. The non combat attire looks good even though it can be a little anachronistic. The combat attire for both shows still has that classic Hollywood leather get up that I don’t care for, although V:Valhalla is getting a little better in not doing that so much. I wish the Anglo Saxon were portrayed similarly to the Vikings. They were practically the same people. I guess the writer think the general audience wouldn’t be able tell the difference. Any way I still love both shows. The costume don’t really keep me from enjoying it. At the end of the day, it’s loosely historical entertainment. Canute and Emma are awesome characters. One more little costume gripe: I wish the Anglo Saxons would wear wrap jackets, which were still fashionable during the time of Edmund II. And I wish the Danes would were some colors beyond just browns and blacks. It was told in the sagas that Harald Hardrada (who’s supposed to in V:Valhalla) wore a gleaming and beautiful royal blue kaftan/surcoat over his mail

The bows: there were historical composite bows from Scandinavia wraped in birch-bark that have been sealed with heat to create a water tight yet flexible protectiv layer of the bow. So even though perhaps the most common type in the south thy could still for sure have existed in enough numbers in such a big army to arm a small tactical unit. All I am saying is that it is possible (just not with the bows shown).

Not so sure about the bows and rain. You're talking about horn bows that are glued together. I'm not sure the early Scandinavians were using that kind of bow; that was more of a Central Asian / Steppe style bow. The Scandinavians had plenty of wood (And good bow type wood) to be bothered making a composite style. The rain might damage the *string*, but most archers will carry several spares and may even have waxed them for that purpose.

Those were celtic tribes that came from Bretonia (now north-western France). Those were btw. the people that gave "Britain" it's name. From "Bretonia" Mainly in the south-eastern of now Britain there lived/settled the germanic tribes of the Anglos & Saxons (that's what England sometimes is called still today in german, "Angelsachsen"). The so called "Vikings" (Northmen/Norwegians) had some settlements in most eastern parts but never had a really big & own population there. They mostly assimilated there. There is zero historical evidence that the "Blood Eagle" ritual was ever actually performed on anyone. The ritual was only specifically mentioned twice in the Norse Sagas, (with a few other POSSIBLE secondary references). Also, there was no mention of anyone suffering the Blood Eagle until well after the end of the "Viking" era, when the entire region had been converted to Christianity. Most likely the entire ritual was fabricated as a way of describing how barbaric the pre-Christian Norse were.
@jasonleightonDTA

One of the earliest accounts of the use of the blood eagle is thought to have occurred in 867. In the Tale of Ragnar’s Sons, which the TV series Viking is loosely based on, King Aelle (played by Ivan Kaye) of Northumbria was named as a victim of the blood eagle.

Actually, when you look up the "Blood Eagle", it's just basic googling really, you can understand that it wasn't just "innards" but the lungs. The ribs are broken and detached from the back and the lungs are pulled back, so when the victim breathes in, the lungs inflate and, you know how it might look, and yes, the person "needs" to be alive to get that "eagle wings" with the lungs.

You missed the one glaring error in all of Vikings. It happens in season 1, episode 3. After the raid on Lindisfarne they return to their ship, with Athelstan and the other monks they took as slaves. There should only be one ship there in the water, but there are two identical Viking ships. We know they sailed there in one ship, the one that Floki made for this adventure, paid for by Ragnar and Floki together. It’s the only thing that has really bothered me in terms of continuity in the series.

Interesting that even some of your research has their mistakes this because your not a native scandinavian and that's why your unaware of it. Like the story of Ice and Greenland. Please note that Greenland in the time of settlement of the Northsmen had a warmer period. This also allowed wine farming in Scandinavian or Scotland. Furthermore Russia was called the Kievrus after the settlement of the Northsmen. O,yes in Europe the Vikings are also called Northsmen and this covers these Germanic people better.

Seriously, This are not mistakes, there were no cardinal points and many other references to places, things, and situations that did not exist in that time. How many of us could understand the old terms? Vikings did not speak modern English, did they? Its all in our benefit, and perfection do not exist in cinematography, so... great job, and great series guys! Thanks for your massive, excellent work.

The glue wasn't so much the issue with the bows as far as getting wet as we know they had to row over the sea and they did use bows even against the English. So it wouldn't be absolutely wrong, but the problem that comes of it is the string or rope acting the same as dry. I have never tested it, but it would seem to reason that you just got out of the water. It can be far more slippery causing you to misfire making less distance and ability to hit through armor which those guys are wearing. Bows back then often were fired very close forcing you to fire maybe 5 shots then use a sword for defense and offense.

The last thing we "missed" about Ragnar's hands on the promo poster crowning Ivar has absolutely nothing to do and no possible implication of Ragnar returning to the show. It's meant to be a metaphor for the crown being passed down, as much of the show was focused on Ragnar's rise to and reign as King, and as the show progressed it shifted to his sons and their legacies and respective rules.

In Season 1 when Haraldson's henchman comes to take little Bjorn, Lagertha picks up an axe and steps in his way, causing him to settle for a different boy whose mother wasn't a legendary shield maiden. Rather than the replica Viking axes used on the show, she was armed with a present-day hatchet.
