Thank you guys for another great video. This shows once again that all you need is a great chasis and max 100-120 bhp at the wheel, unless of course you're a real pro. Every time I've commented something along these lines in motorcycle videos (e.g. you may "want" a 200+ bhp bike, but you can't really handle one nor you actually "need" one, so stop the ego mastrubation...) I've been crucified. Now you guys make this awesome video where you conclude as very experienced riders that a 25 year old bike with a great chasis and maybe 90 bhp at the wheel is hugely more engaging, fun, and just better to ride than an overpriced, overpowered, teched out ego statement. And that was a pure track test. Apply all this to the real world where there are strict speed limits, very real and serious life and death consequences, and an overpowered bike really starts to seem like a potential danger to pretty much everyone in the hands of a mere mortal non-pro rider - rather than a "look at me, I'm hardcore tough guy" statement. Before some of you size queens desperately try to defend your fragile egos and tell me to "go back to my Ninja 250" think about whether you've ever truly, completely MASTERED a 250-500cc bike first, and no I'm not talking about going on a straight line, son 👌🏻😂

I’m riding my first big (ish) bike Hondas CBR650R at the moment and just under 100bhp at 94 is plenty on British roads and the 916 look bloody brilliant but despite only getting the full License on Jan have had a long (3+ hr) test ride on the Panigale V2 which the dealer bizarrely handed over in Race mode and loved it. While the top couple of gears were redundant on British roads can’t wait to try one on the Autobahns (which I sampled my Hondas top speed (137 MPH) on this year)! 100BHP is enough but the 155 of the Ducati with the fantastic chassis/suspension/electronics made it another level and has its place too! Not planning on heading into V4 territory though will leave that to my Son (Ex BSB V4S and about to get the V4SP2) for now!

Daniel Lever i live in Utah America and in 2005 bought a new Ducati 999R 'Fila' and went out to the first meet up on it ,..and it was a show stopper,..full Fila Livery from their championship motoGP Factory bike. Mine was one of 10 to have the Ducati Performane 1 piece carbon Fiber Fairing unpainted and clear coated from Factory and 1 of 3 to have the Fila Livery decals in opposite colors,..98% of 999r Fillas were replicas of the motoGP bike,..red white and blue, no exposed carbon, mine the front fender, rear hugger, and entire fairing were clear cloatsd Carbon Fiber and all decals colors were opposite of the GP replica, SO rolling up on a completely carbon fiber bodied bike in 2005 was a shocker,...it gained crowds at every meet and show and I was always shocked at the acceleration of the Full system Titanium GP Termiignoni R against the groups inline 4 liter bikes! Everyone always wanted me to start it for a rev to hear that GP 999R sound ,..and amazed how many would tell me at stop lights something's wrong with the bike becuse it had a GP open clutch cover lol it's the only 999R I've seen on the street and onenof only 3 produced in the world with that spec, sadly I hit a landscape boulder that fell off a truck on the highway and did some damage,..but made the retarded decision of my life! 1 or 3 999R Fila GP reverse replicas produced in the world that I paid just over $30,000 in 2005 for shipping it from Italy to the US. After laying it down, it rode great, no mechanical problems, just a one rash and cracks in the carbon and the insurance totaled it because the 1 piece faring was $9,500 from Ducati among a few things, so I bought the $30,000 bike back from Allstate insurance without them ever looking at it for only $1,800 with a salvage title! They had NO idea what it was! I swore I'd keep it forever but just months later I was contacted by a rich Texan that tracked me down as one of the reverse Fila owners and he offered $30,000 for the bike, what I paid 3 years earlier and with now 12,000 miles and track days in it, and a salvage title I thought i was so lucky! And sold it!!! 2 years ago one of the 3 reverse Filas sold in an international online auction for $74,000 US!!! Clean title and less miles but mine could still have pulled $55,000+ today and the values are just going up! So stupid to sell one of the most rare Ducatis produced and only one in America, one is with a collector in Italy and the other is in a Ducati Museum in Italy. I'm a moron! But I agree , Just something about the powerplant difference, THE the feel, the rarity of A Ducati! Being 42 year old single dad of 3 daughters and that bike accident effing my back up,..I can't ride sport bikes anymore,..too painful! My last one a 2015 yamamha R1 was a torture device with its MotoGP M1 Geomentry but thank the Lord I gave the Supernaked class of bikes a try,..and bought a Yamamha MT10 , the Supernaked R1 that doesn't hurt to ride and only likes being on the rear wheel. Lol. Great track bike too tho the long straight feels the 160jo verses the 200+ of the R1 variation,..Truly tho the most enjoyable and fun bike I've ever owned suprisingly! Less hp but produces more torque than the 200hp R1 in half the revs , shorter wheels base and gearing,..just a blastto ride! Sold after 2 years for some stupid reason and recently saw the press release on the upcoming Ducati V4 Streetfighter and as an upright naked im SO excited!!! Moreso that they announced if you add the Factory option titanium Akra, the re-tuned v4 hypernaked will produce 230HP!????? The first naked to have the same power as its superbike brothers derived from! The 160hp MT10 is nuts,..the 175 hp Superduke R and Tuono Factory's insane! And now we're talking adding another 55hp to that!!!??? And the latest most advanced electronics on earth, latest exotic Brembos, and electronic Ohlins, to mention just a few things and best of all a 230hp Ducati V4!!!! That will produce more torque than the v4 Panigale in nearly half the revs!? Ducati says it will obtain better times at many of the worlds best tracks that the v4 Superbike! (Obviously with no screen /a hypernaked and the slightly lower gearing and more torque in accessed in half the revrange they are saying that slightly tighter tracks will be the Streetfighter Special. My new dream bike for sure! When I owned the 999R there was a RSV Mille too in the group too, of 65 bikes only two of us had euro exotics and I always loved the Mille! 👌

Would love to see a vlog discussing the decision-making process of getting the ultimate, ( HP4 Race), and/or something like the 916 for 5k or a bargain Aprillia to ride on track. Does riding the best bike available to non-pros spoil the enjoyment of riding lesser bikes? Does the fear of wrecking an expensive bike ultimately stop you riding it to it's full potential? Is riding a bike you don't care about more liberating? I think a lot of riders have a similar dilemma. Get a top bike at the limit of my wallet and worry about it, or go for something cheaper and be less risk-averse. Discuss.
@MZ-bl6wg5 жыл бұрын
Paul R Paul R here's my 2 cents,..in 2005 at 27 years old business was good and I bought myself MY then dream bike, a very rare 2005 Ducati 999R Fila GP Replica (Reverse) I paid a hair over $30,000 US for it back then which sounded rediculous to most and shipping it from Italy to Utah USA. I put 19,000 miles on one of the most rare Ducatis made , I did track days, commuted, did some trips on it and absolutely loved it, it always generated a crowd at meets as the first ALL carbon fiber bodied bike produced and the carbon fiber left exposed and clear coated by Ducati. In 2005 it was insane. After a few year one night as fate would have it , a soccer ALL sized landscape boulder fell out of a trucks flat bed in front of me, my buddy missed and I could IT aware on as it. Bounced down the highway. Insurance paid me $29,500 for the bike, with plans to total it , give it a salvage title and auction it off because the 1 piece Ducati Performance exposed Carbon Fiber Fairing was $9,400 alone , and that was exposed non clear coated. Bike just had cracks in the Fairing and some rash and a broken shift lever but ran 100% perfectly! My insurance agent hadn't even gone to look at it, just got the quote from the only Ducati dealer here at the time and told me they were going to total it and give it a salvage title? Before paying $13,000 for a Fairing and clear coating And send it to auction. I got so excited and asked my agent who hadn't seen the bike. Really had no idea what it was or just how rare it was,..how much it would take for me to buy back my "totaled " bike to "rebuild " it lol. He said if they could get near $2,000 for what's left of it I could take it back. I ran to the bank so damn fast and brought a hair under $2k and ran to white knuckle to ride it home! Lol never changed the Fairing, out a shift lever and rode it another year eventually selling it to a Texan for whatni hd paid for it 3 years earlier and with a salvage title . Thought I cleaned up but the value today is crazy! Before my latest Supernaked Yamaha crossplane 4 MT10 I had a 2015 R1M, another pricey one (for Me). And My point is ,..if you don't enjoy it ,..it's not worth it!!! I put a ton of miles on a very rare Ducati and laid it down but never have regretted it! Next response to your next question, both the 2005 Ducati 999R Fila and the 2015 R1M were 2 of the top performing bikes of their years,..actual MotoGP technology in BOTB and what I've found is it does not ruin owning a lesser performing bike after because every bike, every model, every type rides differently and has its own experience.and honestly a Yamaha MT07 has crazy performance compared to 700's of years ago. It's fast relatively speaking. Meaning anything fromtje last 20 years is fast relatively speaking in a sport bike or a naked etc,..a 90hp 916 like they said they both enjoyed riding more than the v4 Panigalle,..truth it,..99% of motorcycle riders could never reach the limits of a v4 Panigale, I know I certainly couldn't get anywhere near the limits of the R1M , so whether a top of the line technologically advanced R1M or Panigale or a 2010 Ducati 1098 , there ALL different and all a hell of a blast , ALL creating their own experience. Owning a top performing bike like an R1M for me,..just meant even doing track days, I'd never reach the limits of that bike as a non pro rider . Think I may have usedy iPad and App for the electronic Ohlins suspicion adjustments maybe Twice and more just out of curiosity. So if you buy an HP4 Race, you won't ever be able to "push" that bike to its limit (remember Al Fagan saying the HE could never reach the limits of that bike ,..and he's a BSB Legend!! Most would only use maybe 70% of its capability 95% of the time so then going to say a 2009 Raven R1 I can assure you it would not be boring as the R1 also is beyond most skill and ability. Case in point, I've owned the $30,000 exotic 999R Fila but next bike after that was a 2008 Yamaha R1 Raven and I LOVED the bike. Worried a lot less about etc. and after my R1M,..one of the most technologically advanced production bikes available, I went from the roughly 212 hp R1M to a 2017 Yamaha MT10 (the new Supernaked R1). Was only 160hp , not 212, topped out at 160mph not 198, didn't have a 6 axis IMU or electric Ohlins , u sit upright with a flat bar . My accident edged my back up to where I just can't ride sport bikes anyone without pain and I worried going R1M to a Supernaked with much less hp would be depressing,..but the truth is,..of the 14 sport bikes I've owned ,..some euro exotics and state of the art.,..my absolute favorite bike I've had and the absolute most fun to ride of any of mine wasn't the $30,000 999R Fila,95 the $21,000 R1M,..it was the Supernaked 2017 Yamaha MT10 hands down!!! I LOvE the crossplane 4 motor of the R1 and in MT10 naked form ,..it's much more fun to me,..500 hp less than the R1M BUT has MORE torque than the R1 and produces that number very low in the rev range,..MUCH earlier than the high reving R1 , its retuned to rev lower produce torque thru most the entire rev range, Has a shorter wheelbase and sitting up with a flat bar combined makes it so much more nimble and flickable, lower gearing too ,..all of which make the MT10 a cheap hell of a blast hooligan bike that is actually quicker 0-60mph than the R1 ,..actually in 2017 the MT10 had the world record for production motorcycle 0-60time (2.4 seconds) for any motorcycle brand, type , or year. The tune, gearing and wheelbase just make the bike constantly want to. On its back wheel only, total wheelie monster, commuting , weaving their traffic, daily driving is SO much fun! I put 2 years on it , daily rode it year round sun or snow, it's type made it an amazing commuter, cruise control was epic, I could do 1,500 mile trips with ease even with a bad back, 2 up riding is great and no pressure on your wrists, out Accerates ANY car you may be sitting next to at a light , whether $400,000 Porsche or a 488 Ferrari. Rip the 32 lb. cat off and it sounds like Rossis M1,..amazing v4 like sound, I hit many a dirt roads on it with zero issue, the reliability of Yamaha with zero problems in 2 years ownership. Craziest part, I'm not kidding , I had more fun tracking my MT10 than my R1M! Seriously when our track is set up on the tight layout, my times were actually a second quicker on the MT10 becaue of how hard it shoots out the slow holes. I'd ride it to and from the track too lol. Quickshifter is awesome, rider Modes, AbS modes, traction control settings , wheelie control , adjustable suspension was all awesome!!! Craziest of all was I bout it new out of California a week after launch for $9,200 with 4 miles on it and full warranty, no dealer fees!!! Less than half the cost of my R1M and easily more fun!!! Watch Chris review of the MT10 he did,..he laughed the entire video yelling and callingnir a Jizz machine,..wheeling more than I've ever seen him wheelie! 3 years ago my heart was broken realizing my 26 years of sports bike riding was done! BUT a random decision one day to test ride a 2016 Aprilia Tuono v4 Factory changed the game and finding the new MT10 half the cost of the Tuono and very very close in performance numbers.,..Bottom line for me was that going to a half as cheap , completely different model of bike with less hp ended up being the best decision I ever made in 26 years of bikes! So no ,.owning an R1M didn't make owning a less powerful MT10 a let down,..inenjoy it much more! Do yourself a favor,..if you're looking at a very high end expensive sports bike,..GO test ride the very inexpensive Yamaha MT10,..after riding the sport bike, or to try a base Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR. Just try it, you'll be surprised like Chris was ,..Al Fagan said the Aprilia Tuono v4 Factory 1100 is THE BEST motorcycle ever made! (In his review). And that's a BSB legend! Try a Supernaked. U may still go expensive exotic but I promise you you'll be very supervised!!! I will say one thing,..my payment for the new MT10 was $164 a month , compared to say $$445/ month for the r1M , insurance was $36 a month full. Coverage compared to my soorts bikes $125/month,..and I can say that knowing in not spending nearly $600 a month on a bike , for me personally made the MT10 and the bargain it is SO much more enjoyable! There. I've had all those questions too once and feel like for me personally I've figured them out,..but everyone's different. I think ANYONE could go buy a used 2017 MT10 for $7,000 and be happy forever with it! I did end up putting EBC performance pads on it which fixes the brake fade/wooden feel, I reflashed the ECU to a catless stock system , shredded 32 lbs talk grhe cat off and with a race filter ended up with 179hp , more than the Tuono 1100 and superduke R at a cost of $565 total for everything and did it all myself but truth be told the base MT10 is PLENTY for anyone,..it's already nuts with the gearing tune and wheelbase and hard to keep the front wheel down under heavy acceleration, no need for the extra hp except that it helped hugely at the track with some added top end, power and torque , braking and weight shedding. IF that's yours first bike you're talking about DO NOT go to the top of performance and your wallet,..first bike ever , to buy a $4,500 MT07 or a $6,,000 Yamaha MT09! You may never sell it lol they are pretty nuts too, but don't max ur wallet out on a first bike, that's a waste and truthefully buying say a newer R1 for a first bike you'll kill your self. My first bike at 16 was a new 1997 Yamaha YRF-750R and it was too much! Shoulda gone 600. You need to work up in performance . Hope that helps. Everyone's different so do what makes u happy.

I can't believe that the track allows you to leave the mirrors on, the license plate and mounting bracket, and the lights. Here in U.S.A., these will have to be removed for track day duties. You might be allowed to keep the lights on at certain tracks, but they're required to be disconnected and taped up. The track you guys visited looked awesome. Respect. Wish I could've been there too.

Personally i think the 748 is about the perfectly balanced supersport Its tame enough for even new riders to safely learn sportbike riding. Its fast enough for great riders to keep up with modern supersports. It corners better than any bike made. Its revvier than the bigger bike and even though you are slower you feel faster, very fun ride And its the same size/weight because its the same frame as the 916/996/998. So if you really love your cheap second hand 748, i see the bigger sibling for sale for ~9k or less in great shape all the time. You just better like red or yellow. Or gray/black if you find a senna, or green if you find a matrix edition. Also the maintenance is just a little bit more involved than another 90s supersport say a cbr600f3

I imagine a lot of air came out after you BOILED(from liquid state to gas) some "God knows how old and full of moisture" brake fluid in your system. Yeah, that would do it. So . . . it was a matter of fresh fluid and bleeding ? Well, that's doesn't sound so bad at all, you lucky dogs. Truly enjoyed this one. Well done, lads. 👌🏻👍🏻😎

@MZ-bl6wg5 жыл бұрын
Paulfastbikes really??? I live in America but bought a new 999R Fila in 2005 and the insurance classified it as a "standard" motorcycle lol one of the cheapest bikes I've insured but the most expensive to replace. When I maxed it down the one piece carban Fiber Fairing was $9,400 alone, they totaled the bike instead of fixing so maybe. Ow rates are more. 🙂

@@MZ-bl6wg yes the ducati I was quoted at nearly £1,000 English pounds vack in mid 90's I bought a honda v twin firestorm instead and paid £186 for insurance massive difference

916/996/998 probably my fav bike of all time love the style/looks. bike now days are just getting too expensive and too much computer controlled. yes I would love to have that power in mine, but I personally think it takes away from the skill and experience of riding....which is why I bought the one I did... '08 1098, no traction control, no rider aids, just pure fun
