$250 Automatic Dive Watch? - Orient Kamasu Unboxing & First Impressions

This is the second Orient that I am adding to my collection after the Orient Neo 70s panda. If anything, this was actually the first automatic watch I wanted to review but couldn't pull the trigger because the prices for this watch in Australia was crazy until I finally found it for under around $250USD.
Lets see whether this watch lives up to it's reputation on KZbin, being the best dive watch under $300.

I chose this watch over several more expensive pieces. I was looking for a diver that could do it all yet remain elegant. One of the most beautiful, yet legible dials i have ever seen and astonishing lume with good wearing dimensions. I wear this for workouts, hikes and even with a suit despite plenty of other watches. Great review man.

I also have the green dial Kamasu. Tbh, I’m quite satisfied with the bracelet, it’s comfortable and not too heavy. Looks decent too. Would’ve liked a little more taper. But the hollow end links and stamped clasp don’t bother me at all.

Great review, I just ordered mine in green. Thank you for the measurements, I was hesitating between this and the ray 2 because of the size/thickness (because small wrist), but the difference is negligible and the kamasu is finally thinner which is a win for me, although I wish the diameter was like the ray 2 or even smaller, but hey cant beat sapphire crystal.

Orient definitely looks better IMO. Only thing I might do is upgrade the crystal with the AR coating. I don’t like modding too much but that AR coating makes a huge difference, especially with the Kamasu dial being so beautiful!

I got my Kamasu almost a year ago and I have been living happily with it since then. I know people go on about changing the bracelet but I don't really have a problem with it and it is kind of an expensive addition considering how much the watch originally cost.

Yeh, I've been so far using it on the current steel bracelet. I mean, I think I'll still change it, but it is serving it's purpose so far. I'd recommend checking Aliexpress for steel bracelets with solid end link, many can be hand for $20 or so and its pretty good quality.

This was my second automatic watch which was also my second Orient watch. I got the LE one with the rose gold bezel and the amazing looking dial that looks like the ocean. It's a great size, keeps amazing time and is an all around a cool, sporty looking dive watch. The bracelet is cheap, so it's best to replace it with something nicer.

Yeh, the bracelet is the only thing holding this watch back, but after wearing it for awhile now, I realised that it was the best decision for Orient (much like Seiko) to only skim out on the bracelet but pack the watch with a great movement, finishing and design. Honestly speaking, I have yet to even change the bracelet as I just learnt to accept it for what it is.

Yeh, that was what I thought, I try to look for reviews of watches I want to purchase to look at the wrist roll to see whether it'll look good on my wrist. Especially now that it's hard to physically see the watch in person or try it on during Covid lock down etc. I might do 60 second KZbin shorts with just wrist roll shots and macros with no talking. let the watch sell itself lol.

Having a hard time on deciding if I'll be getting the seiko 5 gmt or this orient kamasu. I like the seiko gmt because of the jubilee bracelet and the cyclops though the kamasu is more worth it based on some reviews.

Got the green Kamasu. HATE the non-AR coated crystal. An almost constant "haze". Would have been happier with a mineral crystal that I can actually view the watch face through.

I’m blessed to own watches at the full range of price points but I can tell you the Kamasu is amazing quality for he price point. I have the limited edition blue and gold plus the red dial. Next one will be the green Kamasu. Plus it wears much smaller than the dimensions.

Save $100USD and get the Ray2 or Mako2 if you don't need a sapphire crystal. The Kamasu, Ray2, and Mako2 all have the same F6922 caliber.

I just got it in blue from Amazon. It got here late and it’s about 10PM so I don’t want to set it until tomorrow. I’ll probably just use my small Wiha micro screwdriver to push the pins out. Just worried about messing up my first automatic… when did you set your time?

Yes the skx 007 has a lume pip on original bezel. Nice review, good looking Orient. 🍻

Thanks for posting C.P. I have to say, My wife bought me 2 Orient Kamasu's for Xmas, then I bought myself one (yes, I got impatient). I've been hearing a bunch of flak over the bracelets on these fine pieces, and I have to say; I personally don't have a problem with them. No, they are not Rolex bracelets, but they are comfortable, and "POPPING". Thanks for your review. This Kamasu collection is my super nice beater collection. Who says a beater has to be... A beater?

I got both watches and Ray 2 has the same case as the Kamasu with a mineral instead of sapphire crystal and the difference in the face design. That's all there is to it.

I just ordered one from a reputable shop in singapore. it looks amazing, but the box is totally different from your unboxing and others i have seen. Mine came in a thin white box covering the orient black box. i could read the orient log thru a cutout. the black orient box looks legit, but does not have the metal rivets in each corner like i have seen in all unboxing videos. the pillow inside is black too. the manuals look very legit as does the watch. did they just change packaging? did i get a fake?

It could just be packaged differently, I am unaware of fake orients, especially since it's not super expensive, but don't quote me on that

The green is amazing, but it also depends on your wardrobe. I am a fan of green dialed watch, my favorite being the Sarb017, which people love to hate. I was also contemplating getting the Red because I don't have any red dialed watches, but personally, the green seem to be more vibrant and if the stock levels are anything to go by, it seems to be the more popular one which means re-selling will be easier. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, I don't want to be telling you how to spend your hard earned money 😀

hey! would like to ask if you set the time by rotating the crown clockwise or anticlockwise because i was told by the seller to only rotate anticlockwise :/

I set it clockwise normally. If anything, assuming I haven't used the watch for awhile, I'll move it forward until it the day/date changes then I set it from there. However, I am unsure if there is some deeper reason to set the time counter clockwise, perhaps the seller knows something I don't know?

If you have not used the watch for a while the best (safest way) to set the watch is to go clockwise until both hour and second hands are at the 6 o'clock position and then set the day and the date to one before what it actually is and then set the time correctly by rotating clockwise until the day and date flips over to being correct and you have the AM / PM position also set correctly. Orients and Seikos tend to use an extended period between 9 pm and 3am to flip over the day and date to the next day and if you inadvertantly try to set the time when this process is ongoing there is the possibility you could strip the gearing. Edit - I see you explained this further on in the video.

Really, looks like a deep emerald green with a sun burst effect with my naked eye, but I'm always a miss when it comes to colours.

I agree with the emerald color. Many emeralds tend to be a little bluish.

I have 5 Orient watches(Mako2, Ray2, Kamasu red, Kamasu green, Kamasu 4) now. They are all great watches, but if you shake them left and right softly for more than 10 seconds, they all speed up for 4 ~ 5 seconds immediately. If you do it again, they speed up more. Also, they all speed up approximately 10 ~15 seconds after walking for 3 ~ 5km or exercise in gym) Since all of my 5 Orient watches and SKX007 are same, I think it's normal for them. Anybody has comment for this here?
