Here I cut down an old ski boat prop to make an awesome little race propeller.
Loved turning an old broken prop into an awesome prop which out performs all my other props.
Hope this can inspire 👍

gday mate im back again with another question: i wanted to prop my 5hp for underwater drive but i dont know what i need to get speed outa it what pitch and diameter i am completely clueless
@25hpboatracerman
@25hpboatracerman 3 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, For normal running at factory depth the propellers that come on the motors are normally pretty close to what you need. For more speed, make the boat as light as possible and play with your trim settings. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Hello dear, really nice speed, congrats...Could you give me advice which racing prop size good for 6 hp Honda 4 stroke
@25hpboatracerman
@25hpboatracerman 7 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, Unfortunately I am not sure for the 4 stroke Honda 6hp. it’s really not a motor that would be suited to modifying sadly. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

The speed you are getting out of that little outboard is absolutely amazing! Really love the rooster tail too! 😎 Interesting to see that the methods you use to cut, shape and balance props, are exactly how I modify my RC boat props! 😊I even use the exact same "epoxy and stainless dowels" method of securing props with brass bushes to suit smaller diameter shafts. In my experience, it's not a fool-proof method, as there is inherently a tiny amount of run-out with each bushing being applied, and these inaccuracies tend to "add up", sometimes resulting in a wobbly prop. Am I making any sense here? Just one final thought regarding the static balancing of RC props: I have a commercially available aluminium balance-tool-thingy, which also uses 2 conical end pieces to fit the prop snug and true to the shaft. The only difference with my setup compared to your much larger device, is that the shaft has been ground to a very sharp point at both ends. The shaft is supported at each pointy end by rare-earth magnets, which means that there is virtually zero friction when the prop is spun. This setup enables incredibly fine prop balancing. This kind of tool is not only used by RC boaters, but is widely used by RC airplane guys too.

Hi Champion, Yep, your making sense 👍 You definitely need to make sure that the bushes you insert and true and centered for sure. I used the same magnetic balancers with my rc propellers in the past, would love a giant setup like that. Thanks for your comments and input mate. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Thats so genius!! Thats double the speed I am achieving with my stock Tohatsu 8hp. But she cools herself now under full throttle. I love that motor but the placement of the Thermostat under the head is so stupid. What do you think are the easiest steps to gain more top end speed?
@25hpboatracerman
@25hpboatracerman 10 күн бұрын
Thanks Mate 👍 Yep, the thermostat under the head is not ideal but glad you sorted your cooling. Easiest speed mod is lighter boat and prop - engine height. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

From an 8hp engine, that's amazing! When you balance the prop, did you compare the faces of each blde for equal thrust? I'd think that would be as important as weight balance

@25hpboatracerman 10 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, Thanks for your comments. I didn’t change the face of each blade, just put a finish on it so the original shape was maintained. All material was removed from the back of the blades. I did check the pitch of each blade though to make sure the prop was good before starting on the project. I’m super happy with it, it performs better than I could have hoped. Cheers 🥂 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Super cool. Hats off to the doing it crew. After seeing your mods to aluminium props I have modified three props, what a difference it can make. 🤠 Only problem with the aluminium is how thin you can go at the tips... I think you"ve shown us a great alternative!
