I love those old Kleins, they are surprisingly supple and smooth to ride. I also love the idea of a cubby road bike... perhaps I need to build one too, I might just need some of those tires... Thanks for the classy video Ron. Bummer on the bags. - Ciao my friend.

Love it. I built up a trashy old Kona and I’ve been riding it more than my custom ti bike. It’s just carefree fun riding

Lovely build; good way to describe it, too. I agree that the importance of frame material is overstated outside of competitive racing. Tire construction, width & pressure, seat post, and possibly fork and bar tape matter much more. And aesthetics -- that is obvs the most important factor.

I have a 2001 Klein Attitude that I purchased new off the floor. I just love that thing. My go anywhere bike. Great to see others actually get out and enjoy the old Kleins. I am also with you rim brakes work perfectly and without hassle.

Ah…great wee film as ever - this is making me want to dig out my old On One Inbred 26’ - set it up as a drop bar single speed - maybe a project for the spring.

Excellent build. I have been toying with idea of changing the handlebars on my 90s Claude butler Volente MTB (26" wheels). Tried many different styles previously. Thanks bro! Inspired.

I have a 98 Rocky Mountain Thin Air with a frame handmade in Vancouver that I've just repurposed for winter. I used an old pair of Hakkapelitta ice (spiked) tires and extended the stem with cruiser-ish bars. Rides great. It's almost too nice to ruin in the salty cold of Montreal.. almost 😬

this type of build ( in my case 57 cm Koga Miyata FM1 steel frame and fork with 3x12 xt , dropbarshifter, v-vrake .2.3 tires..)rides much more comfortable than most of the bikes that i build before: it is much faster than an expensive touring bike and compared to a race bike: you have to carry 2 kg more but after a 75 km ride i feel much more relaxed due to very few vibrations.. I build a second one now with a straight bar for shopping etc

Back in the early 90s a friend had a Klein Attitude with all XT and he let me ride it a few times, man what a great bike! Frame was super stiff but not harsh and it was so light and flickable. My budget then was Cannondale, also aluminum, but similarities ended there. I like your build, looks really cool but for me, more upright is just more practical.
@ultraromanceСағат бұрын
its a fantastic frame --- my first Klein won't be my last. always just tough to find the big size I need. would love to also build one up with an upright set up ... probably will --- I can't help myself 😝

I had a Pinnacle I got at a yardsale for $25. Black and 88 possibly [dont remember], original sus fork with all the graphics gone and no seat post. All XT. Very reluctant to replace cables on it, scared actually but I did and surprised no issues and very impressed with the ease of the task. Wow, those cable portals are quite nice looking! Set it up as MTB, rode it twice and hated it so I sold it to Klein nut. Too small to make into a gravelly-type bike. Very light bike in the end for what it was back then. Glad you like yours. One day we will meet when you come visit Erik in Orono

Great video, an excuse to build another 26er! I know aluminum's legit and everything, but I sure like steel. A chubbie would be cuter with lugs.

At this point I don't really care about the ride properties of frame materials, I just like that I can solder bits onto steel frames, it's fun!

That's a beautiful bike! I recently got my hands on a (1996?) Cannondale "Bud Light edition" MTB frameset. It fits 650B's with 35mm tires, but inspired by your build, I might go with 26" wheels and some nice wide Cavas.

The original Klien attitude a true dream machine High end alloy bikes from this era were beautifully made and spec I remember squeezing the top tube of a first gen trek 6000 and denting it in the shop with thumb and forefinger so the magic didnt translate en masse. I went the other way repurposed a trek 520 frame with 2x10 xt thumb shifters and corner bars as a canal towpath tourer. the trek 520 frame disappointed me even though i got the frameset dirt cheap NOS the seat tube was just plain cut lengh no butting if i had paid retail I would have been pissed.
