Honestly this album was a literal punch to the guts - i genuinely felt like tearing up bc her sadder songs on the album hit so hard, yet somehow she made the happier upbeat ones LITERAL BANGERS. Guts was so impressive I can't even decide whether this was better than sour or not. She did an incredible job with this album :)

I think Olivia's music really is both detailed oriented but a bit effortless partly because they start off as diaristic intentionally, like the way one would journal about their feelings. But then she messes with those "diary entries" until they sound more coherent and more cohesive, and her partnership with Dan helping polishing her words also adds to that. She seems to have a gift for creating compelling music, and I also find that songs that didn't hit as hard the first time all grew. It's honestly so cool we get to see her grow as an artist with every release from the beginning of her career.

Tbh, I prefer Guts more than Sour, since it has more rock edge than the debut + the ballads aren't boring, they have more elements and thought put into their instrumentation. And I don't know what's my fave yet, but I like "bad idea right?" and "lose is embarrasing" the most for now, and "vampire" is a song that I more respect than like.

Not my most listened song of the album being in the bottom of your list. 😭 I love the double entendre of getting back with an ex and getting back at him (revenge). All the mixed feelings for a person after a break up is captured perfectly. And it sounds so fun to sing (and scream) along to.

in the grudge she talks ab getting a phone call on a Friday in may and In the ‘Driving Home 2 U’ documentary, Olivia mentions a boy breaking up with her when she was on her way to Salt Lake City on May 8, 2020 (which was a Friday). This is the same day she started writing “1 step forward, 3 steps back”. It is likely about the same person. and there's just a lot of ties to sour like she hears his voice when she feels like she isn't enough relates to enough for you

On my first listen to the album, I forgot abt love is embarrassing too 😭 but like on listening to the album again love is embarrassing is like a BANGER! Overall, I love the album so much, and my faves rn r def lacy, love is embarrassing, making the bed, and teenage dream. rn I think I still like sour better, but I think that's bc of my personal attachment to it and all. Guts is such a grower and each time I listen to it I love it even more!!

My favorite part of this album is her delivery, like hello??? Her vocals are so powerful and the energy she brings to the pop-rock songs it's super contagious, I've been screaming every song since the release. As a second album I think it has the perfect sonic evolution, not the same but not too different, it leaves the door open to new sounds for future projects and the lyrics are better crafted while feeling super natural and relatable. My top 5 are logical, the grudge, love is embarrassing, get him back! & ballad of a homeschooled girl. Probably my 2nd favorite album of the year just after Good Riddance by Gracie Abrams.

guts is an amazing album, ill be sure to come back for when we all fall asleep where do go or ultraviolence. and for new artists, i’d recommend phoebe bridgers and mckenna grace who’s is actually a co-actor with olivia in bizardvaark, and her music is a mix of punk and beautiful ballads, she has an ep called bittersweet 16, and some singles like casual kisser and haunted house, all the best 😊

My fave song on the album was Making the Bed and I definitely think that Guts is better than Sour. Idk, this album was just a lot more impressive/interesting. I feel like she’s really growing into her own sound w this album. Sour was obviously good, that’s why it was such a hit, but Idk in my opinion, *to me*, plz take this w a grain of salt cause it’s just *my opinion* and don’t attack me; it was a little boring. It was just very singer-songwriter-y by someone who was inspired by iconic singer-songwriters. Taylor Swift raised a whole generation of singer-songwriters and its very evident in their albums. I think that makes it really hard for them to stand out unless they come up w their own thing and I think Olivia definitely did that w this album by basically going full on pop-punk/rock

@@jasonpaulkim yea, i think what really made her stand out on Sour was her very strong songwriting. She was able to put these emotions that are hard to understand and even talk ab, cause they’re kind of embarrassing to say out loud, into these perfectly concise and relatable lyrics with catchy choruses and bridges. I remember listening to Traitor, Happier and Deja Vu for the first time and thinking “wow, that’s really clever.” Like “finally someone gets it.” You hear songs about cheating all the time, but you rarely hear songs straight up addressing the gray areas of betrayal, like when someone you love doesn’t necessarily cheat, but still betrays your trust. It felt like someone was finally addressing those weird situations and petty emotions we all experience- not just teenagers (like in happier, deja vu, and good 4 you) and even more deep emotions that teenagers & even young adults experience (like in jealousy jealousy and brutal) Yea, w this album they def focused on developing her sound more but the songwriting was still really good, it just wasn’t as emotional cause she has matured more in her love life so she’s more self aware than before (like in the grudge, love is embarrassing even tho that one’s def more upbeat), but that’s not a bad thing. On top of that she’s addressing ab more serious/deep topics a lot more on this album than she did in sour, which was mostly ab her love life and the heartbreak she was going thru. She’s addressing serious issues like societal standards and pressure on women, psychology, mental health, and growing up in the spotlight (like in making the bed, teenage dream, pretty isn’t pretty, lacy, & even all american bitch and ballad of a homeschool girl), but I personally like that more. She did definitely address those issues in sour too but I think she just went more in depth w it on this album and did it in a more direct & raw way, which like i said, i like. Idk if it’s just the stage of life that i’m in or because i’m a little older than her so I can’t relate to her love ballads as much as the songs that address the other issues b/c they are just a lot more real, raw, and relatable to me. Plus, i like the pop-punk aspect a lot, which is why i def prefer guts to sour
