There's a mistake in the final equation. It should be nλ=2dsinθ for the constructive interference.

i understand that we can calculate theeta and the wavelength of the X-Ray being used, but how do we know what value of n we need to substitute in? That value could be anything.... Please help

The number n i think is given by the computer that is conected to.the difractometer (it is a machine that uses xrays to find the structure of crystaline )

so technically speaking there is no diffraction that is actually used in xray diffraction crystallography? its is only scattering (which we assume to be reflection for simplicity)
