2600 ford tractor first start in years

bought a ford tractor thought it was a 2000 series, but ended up being a 2600 series. bleed the fuel and primed the system . finally got it started. removed the started and poured diesel in clutch housing that unstuck the clutch. installed new high torque starter, new fuel and filter, flushed gear box, and changed oil. gear box hi low does not shift well but is usable for now.

Also, years I worked 10 years at a green tractor dealer. When someone would come in with a stuck clutch, the old timer mechanic would either tie the clutch pedal down, or have one of the young "whipper snappers" sit on the tractor and hold the clutch pedal down. Then with the tractor in gear, he would pull the tractor with another tractor around the dealer's lot, stopping every little bit and giving the tractor a little bit of a jerk, and every time the clutch would break free. Then with the transmission in neutral he would exercise the clutch pedal to help clean the clutch disc and pressure plate, then he'd put it in gear and drive around the lot stopping and starting. After several minutes the clutch would be working almost as good as new. I'd be cautious pouring anything with oil down the starter hole. You have a very good chance of contaminating your clutch plate and risking having to replace it.

Good chance? It’s contaminated. No that there was any lubricant in the throw out bearing or lube on the splines or what not it’s gone now. But I think he is going to sell it .

The older 2000 through 5000 series did have power steering as an option. I ran across a couple 2000s that had factory power steering.

Don't fret over the tires. Tractor tires are very sturdy and unless you plan on pulling a big plow or disc with it, a new set of tubes and the tires will most likely last many more years. I've got 2 tractors at the farm that have tires that are 20 years old, and the tubes hold air and the tires work just fine. Air 'em up and give them a chance. Nice tractor, and I hope it gives you plenty of long life and happiness.

Do you know much about these Diesel engines? I bought a project tractor and I wanted to do it all myself. There just isn’t much info on rebuilding these diesels besides this guy here. When he was working on the cylinder head and clean up It didnt look like his tractor had cylinder liners. ???

@@beckyschwantes5287 these Fords do not use cylinder liners. I don't think even the big Ford tractors do.

What type fuel filter are you using, and did you drain the whole fuel tank

I just got the same tractor. Why did you turn the key back off after starting it? Do I need to do that? The kill switch attaches to the fuel pump? Mine leaks fuel there where it swivels . What is that called ?

It won't flip over don't be nervous around machinery then something would happen

4speed transmission? It was 6 or 8 or selecto-speed, right? Do you have an independent PTO or is your PTO driven by the transmission?

8-speed forward 2 speeds in reverse and If I'm not mistaken 11 in double clutch.

It's 8 speed forward 4 high 4 low range 1 reverse for each range so 2 reverse hi/low
