Boy that throttle slides smoothly, he just opens her up with the slightest tug! What an exciting video, very informative having the engineer be the narrator.

The chuffing sounds she makes when she picks up speed sounds so much like the flying scotsman from Train Simulator.

CSX stands for Crash Scream Xplode. They must be really big steam haters for their super sensitive liability issues.

the Hinton div. is a busy stretch if track steam is very costly to run and insured. Steam may come back to CSX someday once the next CEO/Chairman takes over so maybe. All we have now are memories and I never been on a new river train

well its really nice to see the narration of the trip and what is going on from the cab as it happens, I wish they would do this more often, it would be nice to see like on a very special run like the horseshoe curve trip, would have liked to know on the cannonball though they dont let them run like this limited to 40 or so, wish they let her go 45 atleast as that is where the peak power was rated, as for the sharp turns uphill, I can now see with my own eyes thats are some really sharp turns, it is not gentle at all, at around 9:50 or so, plus all the leafs on the track you cant get speed if you cant keep it to the rails. as for 261 I thought the loco had more power then 765 rated even if the pistons are smaller the her its a higher pressure and larger wheels, though they say the larger the wheels the better the amount of the speed, 1 mph per 1 inch of driver I was told but not as effective for climbing grades.

This was a year after the 261 was restored to operating condition. That would explain why the two FWHS coaches were with 261 in 1998 on the Pentrex Video Steam 98

I think that both 261 and 765 should probably have a doubleheader one day in the future!
@nssteampunk48659 жыл бұрын
They should. And CSX should just chill out and enjoy steam instead of refuse to join in the special events or only tell railroads they are only allowed to tow steam engines onto neighboring railroads.

NS sucks too because now they no longer allow steam excursions again, but they will tow 765 and 611 to tourist railroads. But we might be seeing live steam on CSX in the future as the 2716 is traveling to Thomaston, CT and other places along the way. The 2102 is back this year at the Reading and Northern. It’s really public excursions that are a big liability to publicly traded class 1 freight railroads. They’re afraid of lawsuits. I rode on two 765 mainline excursions in PA and one 611 excursion from Manassas, VA and at Strasburg.

The FWRHS crew in general knew, and probably still know, the New River Gorge better then 261's. That's why the FWRHS equipment and crew were used.
