2640 John Deere Revival

Reviving a tractor that has been sitting for years is something we like to do. This 2640 JD is a little on the rough side, so let's see if the tractor MacGyver can get it cranked.

My first John Deere Gator was a 2011 John Deere XUV855D purchased in 2012. That thing had what’s called Armstrong steering, which means it had no power steering. I later replaced it with a brand new 2014 John Deere XUV855D, which had power steering and originally came with safety nets whereas the 2011 was open with just a roof and windshield. It was a cold ride in the winter, so bundling up was a must. The 2014 was cold in the winter until it got enclosed. Once enclosed, it was a much more comfortable ride. Just this year, I replaced the 2014 with a brand spanking new 2023 John Deere XUV865M. It’s enclosed from the factory and has air conditioning for the spring and summer and heat for the fall and winter. It’s an absolutely gorgeous little truck and has room for 3 occupants.

My man, I’ve run John Deere equipment all my life. It’s all I’ve ever known besides a Lowe’s, a Cub Cadet, and a Sears & Roebuck. I once ran the Cub Cadet, but I never really cared for it. That old joker has since gone down the road. The first John Deere I ever ran on my own was a 2001 John Deere 455. I now mow with a John Deere X750 Signature Series garden tractor.
