Holiday Road!!! This story begins in 1977 when a family out of the suburbs of Chicago drove to Schmerler Ford in Elk Grove Village to purchase a family vehicle. 2 hours later the family left the dealership with their new '77 Ford LTD Country Squire Wagon. The family fell in love. Dad was proud to have purchased his very first brand new car. Mom was happy that dad was happy and the kids were just happy to have so much room in their new Wagon. Within a few days the decision was made to take a road trip to Acapulco, Mexico, (no, not to Walley World), for their yearly vacation. The family had such a good time that they went for 14 straight years in that very same car. The car soon became well known in Acapulco after some years of traveling there. The daily trip to the beach included up to 14 local kids in the spacious family vehicle. In 1991 it was time to retire the family Wagon, but it was out of question to put the car up for sale. It had been sitting on blocks in a heated storage unit in Chicago since then until 2014. Just about 2 years ago the car received a major mechanical overhaul including a complete engine rebuild. Around $15,000 was spent to get it back on the road - where it belongs. This 1977 Ford LTD Station Wagon is as original as they come. This is a 1 owner car with 94490 original miles. This dependable vehicle has never been in an accident, even on all of it's family road trips! The time has come for a new family to enjoy road trips and make their own memories in this beautiful Wagon.
Located in our Fort Lauderdale showroom this 77 Ford LTD for sale can be seen in greater detail including HD pictures and video at www.GatewayClassicCars.com. For additional information please call 954-227-4202 or email

Me and my 3 brothers had a blast riding in the back as kids.Parents took us to Daytona Beach every summer.We'd go to acting up in the back while dad drove while hitting his flask.He'd reach over and grab mom's headrest and spin his head around at us."Boys yall say another word and I'm pulling over to whip all your azzes!!!".And he dam sure meant it.Wonderful family times in that old Ford.

Too funny same experience with my younger brother at the back end pulling sisters hair bouncing from back & fourth getting yelled at. Kids in the neighborhood would laugh at us as Mom would pick us up from school parking this tugboat in front of school classmates would call us the Mexican grizwalds 😂🤣😆 sooo embarrassing at the time that was 1985!

we had one of these in the suburbs, bought new in '78, but was dark brown with the woodgrain. It had the 460 and air shocks to raise the rear end to resemble a 21 foot long muscle car. But the ride, OMG, so smooth and the Big 460 ran with little effort.

I grew up in a 76 Brown with the fake wood grain. I remember after just a few years in the Snowy & Salty Northeast the wood grain began to fade & my Dad would use Old English Stain & brought the color rite back , well for a few weeks. My Dad's wagon tho had the ultra rare for Wagons & only available in wagons in 1976 the 429 cubic inch. I Kno 400 was Standard with 460 option. The 429 was not even listed as option but my Dad knew the Dealership's owner. It was a Special Code for Police interceptor minus 1 Digit for consumer purchases. 1976 was last year that Ford did this & 400 & 460s for 77-78. I still have pics to this Day. Happy Holidays..

Beautiful Wagon in beautiful condition!! Growing up we had the GM clamshell wagon. All three seats face forward. I'm not sure what happened to these wayback seats??? My 76 Chevy Caprice Estate is currently in my garage and in mint condition. (not a daily driver). It is the same color combination as this except the exterior paint may be a little bit more maroon. Has the wood grain and red/ burgundy interior I keep it MINT, and it drives like a Cadillac!! Has the air shocks! Love the big wagons!!!!!! :-) Ours has the Chevy 400-4bbl unfortunately It doesnt have a 454 which was optional. Too bad they don't make these anymore. I have so many people coming up to me and complimenting me or telling me the story of THEIR childhood involving a station wagon.

I took Driver education at my High School in the same car. It was the quitest, most predictable , safest ...by virtue of size and weight you could drive. It did not have the cheap, light, plastic feel of most of todays cars. The one I drove had the 400M v8 and with 4 students and our instructor in the car, the car had enough power to get the job done.

And unlike the one shown, every factory option, 460-4V duel exhaust, A/C cruise control factory air shocks, pwr, windows,locks bucket seats with driver and passenger power 6 way with full recline, roof rack and extra lights and rear seat L & R cigarette lighters, hope to get it back on the road in the next few weeks

A beautiful LTD Country Squire with a gorgeous red interior. Those seats look super comfy. Not like the stone park bench seats that come in all of those new cars. This LTD is way cooler than any new SUV crap. I wish I could find one. I wanted to buy a 1977 LTD wagon (non-Country Squire) but I didn't have the $1,500 at the time. Oh how I wouldn't do for a wagon...

If I remember right, in 1977, the 351M was standard, and the optional engines were the 400M, and the big-block 460. "The full-size car that kept its size."

Yeah I believe that the last year the 429 was offered was in 1972 when it was the top V8. The Lincoln 460 V8 became the top optional Ford V8 in 1973.

The Country Squire Wagon engine options where different from the LTD Wagon. The Country Squire Standard engine was 400. Options where the 460 as Top engine . The Rarest engine for the Country Squire in 1975-78 was the 429. Only the Country Squire had option & exclusively for the Country Squire was the 429. My Dad had to order his 76 cause the 429 was an order only option.

Standard engine for the wagon is the 400 with the 460 optional. I'm thinking this has the 400 as the 460 would have a blue air cleaner housing and the snorkel would be routed to the driver side of the engine compartment.

Globe Globe : Anyone (including a Dealer)could commission a upholstery/audio shop to install a ASC (power sunroof or power moon roof) with or without the trim ring. Having a ASC unit installed with the trim-ring welded to the roof (for a flush factory stamping look) would cost around $2,000 in 1960s/1970s money...not cheap even then. Even when Power Sunroofs and Power Moon-roofs were offered as factory Options then,most of the cars (GM,Chrysler,Ford) were sent to a ASC facility to have the assembly installed....and in some circumstance,ASC would switch-out the roof-stamping. Being that ASC held the Patents then for Power Sunroofs and Moon-roofs....by way of respect (and not bog-down an assembly-line)...the Big 3 farmed-out the work to them.
@larryhawkins3294
@larryhawkins3294 5 жыл бұрын
The Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable wagons from model years 1986 through 1995 were available with Sunroofs from the factory. There were no other USA manufacturers making station wagons with a powered factory sunroof. That 1973 Plymouth Sport Suburban mentioned earlier was specially ordered by a fire chief who knew an executive at Chrysler Corporation and had it specially ordered.
