A Very Happy 27th Birthday to you !!! What a fun way to celebrate. I remember doing "book reports" in grade school, but for the life of me I have no memory of doing any assigned reading. I think a couple of books that really influenced me have been "Surfacing" by Margaret Atwood and "The Edible Woman" also by Margaret Atwood.

happy birthday!! i also didn’t read the harry potter series until I was 18 years old, and i feel like i could appreciate the more complex themes as well :) some books that make me who i am today are: walk two moons by sharon creech, kafka on the shore by haruki murakami, and when breath becomes air by paul kalanithi

Same with Life of Pi and The secret history, i would ad for me 4321, Alias Grace, Dead Souls, The road, Agota Kristof "The notebook" trilogy, Knut Hamsun "Hunger" and a hungarian modern classic "Föld,Föld" Sandor Marai. This books shaped me as a reader

I think just Dorian Gray and Of Mice & Men. One you mentioned that I'm very eager to try soon is A Thousand Splendid Suns, although I've yet to read Kite Runner too so maybe that as well.. too many books on the tbr!

yes I would def recommend to read the kite runner before a thousand splendid suns as I think the latter book is definitely a step up! hope you enjoy them when you get round to them (I know the struggle of having a never ending TBR !!)
